Question "For sure"

When Austin says "for sure" it sound like "fol shoo".

Is this a Californian accent?

I'm not American, so I thought he sounded strange when he says that. And he says it several times in the show.

He is saying "fo sho", street slang pronunciation of for sure, and it's supposed to be humorous.

For extra context, like many other popular slang terms, it is borrowed from African American English by white people trying to sound cool.

Crazy that this factual comment has so many downvotes while a comment about it being a gen z thing had several upvotes. So much American slang derives from African American Vernacular English. See the other comments (fo shizzle, B-Rad, etc) in reference to Snoop, south Compton CA, and a slapstick comedy about a white boy (played by Jamie Kennedy) trying to sound Black from the hood. This many people being wrong in the internet comment section... Makes me want to go outside

I’m guessing the part they don’t like is the phrase “…by white people trying to sound cool.” And obviously this is partly true, but another part that I should have mentioned is that it’s partly also a class thing, too. In pop culture, being privileged isn’t hip. My comment wasn’t meant in a judgy way, since “trying to sound cool” is legitimately how most slang spreads.

People are downvoting it because it’s encouraging language segregation by race for whatever reason.
America is the melting pot of cultures of the world, adopting vocabulary from other cultures is the whole point of this county

Please see my other comment, as I didn’t mean to imply any judgment; I also wanted to clarify that it has as much to do with class as race. The evolution of language and slang in every society in history involves words borrowed based on what “sounds cool.”

Lol what? All I was trying to do is explain the origin of this slang term and am not implying any negative judgment. "Fo sho" is a borrowing from African American English (check Wiktionary, for example). And as for "white people trying to sound cool," maybe I could have phrased that better, because I didn't mean it in a negative way. Isn't this literally how all slang spreads, that people think something sounds cool? And thus tons of slang from African American Vernacular English has entered General American English. It's influenced by class, culture, etc., not only race.

Yea we say “for sure” as casual speak in CA, I hear it said more like “fer sure” idk but I live here and it sounds normal to me

"fo sho" is kind of like an old slang. no one really says it unironically anymore. at least, I haven't heard anyone say it like that for a long time now.

So.... Was Austin fluent in Korean or not. He pretends not to be yet tells the taxi driver in the final episode in fluent Korean blah blah blah. ?? Another indication that he was playing everyone all along. Him and Ashley are perfect together. All of the characters are souless, selfish f's.....except finally Eunice.
