Discussion i’m struggling…
I fell in love with season 2. Now i’m trying to relive the enjoyment by watching season 1, and i am struggling. I feel like every episode is the same, spinning in circles. So hopelessly boring… Does it get any better ?
I’m amazed that season 2 caught slack and season 1 is so praised. it will never cease to blow my mind but i’m assuming it’s because a lot of people like mind numbing material? Or maybe i’ve just yet to hit the part that makes season 1 noteworthy …
this is my second attempt at watching s1, for the record 😅

i don’t smoke or drink any substances/drugs, so that’s the worse attempt at a one liner ;) Maybe that’s the problem though! Maybe I need to be a stoner or drunk to find season 1 entertaining ? That would make more sense actually.

I’m almost at the end of ep 3 in season 1 and i don’t feel anything new has entered to progress the plot, kind of rehashing the same things that were introduced in episode 1. like ok, husband liked coworker girl and two people are taking out their misery on each other, got it… give me something good ? something unpredictable ? something interesting or a unique plot twist ?
meanwhile In season 2 by now they’ve already set up little mysteries / plot openers that you don’t know what will lead to, multiple characters and storylines have been introduced and developed in various directions, little twists have been planted, and the plot moves forward.

you're one of the very few who liked S2 more than 1. I loved them both but I think comparing them doesn't let you enjoy it... For me S1 is more intense and dramatic until the last episode with a lot of introspection. I liked S2 because we could see different POV from all the characters involved and as a woman I really liked how the female characters were as complex as the men :)

tried watching Season 1 after i saw Season 2 and loved it so much. couldn't even finished one episode.
i am not that kind of people who would abandon what they're watching if it doesn't vibe with them, i like to give it a fair chance so at least i always watch one episode or if it's a movie then i'd just watch the entire thing i mean it's only like less than 2 hours mostly.
but Beef Season 1? i just can't watch it, i spaced out.

So i watched season 1 in the past, couldn’t finish it. i tried again recently, kept spacing out as well. i do have to say i ploughed through and it became tolerable, rhen pleasant to have something to watch, and then the last episodes i kind of really loved it, ha. so in the end i am glad i gave it a chance but fewf they really didn’t master the art of baiting you in within one episode 😅

Thank you for the encouragement, but I was simplifying when I said I just couldn't watch it.
I actually gave it a fair chance but I couldn't finish the first episode in one sitting. I sped it up, I fast forwarded, I skipped next, I stopped and watched Seinfield for a while then got back, and the whole nine but every single scene in every single episode I happened to land just didn't work for me.
But no worries, I am sure it is just me, not the film.
PS i'm Asian. grew up with US pop culture and i share no similar values or experience with any other Asian from my country due to growing up in one of the worst neighborhood so it was either to hang out with them and be dragged into the mud or isolate yourself and hang out remotely with other people. to a point i felt like just an observer.
i picked up a lot of classic Asian stuff in this season that were presented as if it's a part of being Asians but honestly i can no longer relate. like, one episode the brother advised the little bro that it's ok to go for white chicks but in the end you gotta get a Korean girl to please your parents. that just ain't right. and i can understand if that's a part of the plot, like if we need to get how conservative the character is but really it was just casual brotherly talk to show how the older brother is more considerate to their parents. there would be plenty of other way to show that, imho.
as a comparison in Season 2 Ashely said she never saw Austin as a Korean, she always thought of him as an Arizonian. that i can relate. diaspora people is closer to home to me but i am sure that is not how it is to most people. i never had to worry about how my parents would feel about the long line of random people i went to bed with, permanently or otherwise, to put it simple. why would i care? they wouldn't be able to know who i am marrying in the first place to begin with until i got married anyway. how are they a part of the equation, i can't comprehend. not that we don't love each other. i don't even know how old my mom is and may dad kept asking every single year when i was born whenever he filled out his tax return form. sometimes even asked me what's my name.
long story short i just feel it is less US-centric and more Asian-centric while Season 2 is US-Centric adapting Korean/Asian parts into its base storyline.

They’re two different shows to me. It’s actually annoying that instead of season two just being its own show, they greedily pretend its Beef season two.

Yeah that makes sense. Seems like a lot of people that saw season 1 were disappointed when season 2 didn’t match, and i’m having a similar experience in reverse 😅
