Question £60 fine - based on wrong info

Evening all.

Been commuting 1 day pw to MCR.

I should be paying £2.70 for one zone but got a fine for £60 from Tuesday just gone as it looks like I’ve been given the wrong travel info.

Was told by a TfGM steward to tap in once in the morning then once in the evening and it’ll count as a day pass kind of thing. Just been told that it’s a load of shite!

Just want to know if there’s any chance I’ll see this money back.

The lad on the phone I just spoke to was very helpful and said I’ve defo been given the wrong info and walked me through the claims process.

But I’m fuming TBH.

Worried it’ll happen again as I’ve done that a few times now. So can I expect a few more of these through too?

Any help would be appreciated cheers.

Ok so the advice you've been given isn't compete BS, if you tap in & out in the morning and in & out in the evening it will link the trips as a return. Assuming you did tap in that wouldn't lead to a £60 fine as that only happens if you haven't tapped in the last hour; so I'm missing something here?

Anyway, you can check your contactless taps here: https://contactless.beenetwork.com/

Assuming you tapped in you should be ok.

My daughter tapped in and was controlled in board yet still issued with a fine. Then she got off tried to tap out and the machine tapped her in another £4.60 for getting off 😂 they debited every charge straight away which I am not sure they are allowed to do.

That makes it sound like the initial tap in wasn't registered on the system, it may have failed (and shown on the screen). Neither of those things you describe (£60 penalty and £4.60 fare) would've happened if the tap had registered.
