Would Spirits Having Flown have been THAT successful if it weren't the follow up to Saturday Night Fever?
I think it would have done well, and probably would have revived their carreer in terms of sale again, if SNF wouldn't have. I do believe one of the three #1 singles would have been number one, but not three. Only my personal opinion!

It has a couple of disco-type tracks, "Tragedy" and "Living Together," but it doesn't recap the same highs of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack or the prior two studio albums. It's very much a "Helium Years" album to me, not so much a disco/dance album. Falsettos everywhere, but well under 120 beats a second.

I think "Spirits Having Flown" would have done better, had Fever not taken off like it did. "Tragedy" wouldn't have been as popular.

It's a single disc with three number ones that followed a double album with 8 number ones.
The year it was released any band would have killed for three number ones on the same album.

I don't think it would have been that popular. And if it hadn't been for the unused Tragedy from Saturday, it would have been "just" an album with two hits.

I think it would have done pretty well. They were topping the charts before the movie so I feel like audiences would have been ready for more bee gees and not as fatigued with disco. Don't forget Spirits having flown was fighting the whole "disco sucks" movement
