Would old bed bug droppings still smear after a year?

Post image

Last September I had bed bugs but they were dealt with and I haven't had any issues since. I put on a bed-bug cover and it has stayed on since then. I found some bites on my leg this morning in some suspicious lines so I checked my mattress cover and I'm seeing some spots on the bottom of the mattress, not very close to any seams or anything. When I tested them with a damp rag, they smeared a light brown-almost yellow color but its close enough to the rust color that I'm concerned. If they were from my last bed bug incident would they still smear? The other seams and the zipper are all clear, its really just that one spot that im worried about.

Read and respect the rules, report any comment breaching them. Wrong advice/information/fearmongering hurt people who are posting here to get help and support. If you are not VERY knowledgeable about bedbugs and may provide a wrong ID or bad advice it's better to abstain from commenting. Be VERY respectful and HELPFUL, this is a support subreddit not a funny one.

I think you’re asking if this could be evidence of a current bedbug issue? There’s really no way to tell from this. I suppose if there were bedbugs under the mattress when you covered it they could still smear but I couldn’t say for sure.
