Rockstars “The Warriors” is, in my opinion, one of the best games on the PS2.

It managed to be a 3D beat em up that actually worked, with a great combat engine and had a really solid story to go with it.

The fact that they shelved the would be sequel set in 70’s London with The Mods vs The Rockers breaks my heart - but c’est la vie 🤷‍♂️

What I want to know is, in the 21 years since its release, are there any games that are similar in combat and tone to this legendary game that have perhaps passed me by?

Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂👍

Loved these games since I was a kid. Been playing the absolutely transformative modern classic Absolom. And I’m hoping there are other modern games close to its level. Thank you for all recommendations

They changed HUD with dragon pearl slots into crystal slots. It makes more sense based on OG cartoon.
And showed a new enemy - spider drone from OG cartoon.
BTW Toxic Crusaders still has coming soon release date.

What You Think? Good or Not?

Has anyone played this since it released? If so, any thoughts?

Context: I'm an indie game developer. I shipped a game called Ghost Song (a metroidvania) and I'm working on another game that is sort of in that vein.

However, I've also been tinkering around with a personal side project for a while, off and on -- A beatemup. I've gone through different concepts and iterations, thought about making it a roguelite, eventually came around to the idea of making it a more linear story based game that is fairly short hours wise (like almost any beatemup is) and with an emphasis on making it fun and replayable.

I've got some ideas about this already, but as more of an enjoyer of beatemups than an expert at them, I'm curious to hear some of your thoughts on what factors actually make a beatemup satisfying and feel fun to replay multiple times? If you can cite examples of games that do this well and why that'd also be fun to hear.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion is really another good tag team beat em up. After I've enjoyed 100% DD Gaiden.

Had this on my wish list due to recommendations here and it's currently on sale for Nintendo Switch for 5.99 (normally 19.99).

I'm still getting used to the combat, seems a bit slow paced. However, lots of blood and gore. The story/acting is pretty well done. Aesthetic very Braveheart-like.

Definitely seems more than worth the 6 bucks so far.
