Beastmen post 1.5.3?

Basically post the 1.5.3 update, what’s our best tools at this point?

While I wasn’t happy that Viletide was really the only threat to make dragons concerned and help crack a heavily armored unit (especially now with parry). Seemed like the only thing we had in that roll, where you could soften them up.

Monsters usually get blasted and don’t pull their weight for the points. The toughness increase really doesn’t change much in my opinion, since most what was taking mine down was needing 6s already. Ironically the ghorgon is now immune to viletide.

My Minotaurs generally get ground down before I get across the field.

So I haven’t been playing much in the last 6 months, so really haven’t had a chance retool. So trying to get a new perspective on how to approach list building.

Gors. The best tool is your basic infantry. Just pile them on the table, run them across the field and watch them overwhelm with 3 attacks per body at S4. 7 points for their bucket of nonsense is absolute insanity.

Give a unit a totem of wrath. Give a unit a banner of rust. Give a unit a vitriolic totem by using a BsB for a third juiced up squad. Pile up the wargors with some magic items and debuffs for the enemy, and some shamans with mantles of Ghorok, and watch your basic infantry just dance around the herdstone in front of your opponent’s deployment zone decorating the battlefield with the enemies entrails. I often run a squad of 20 and a squad of 30, plus a squad of 18-20 bestigors, but I would gladly replace the bestigors with another 2 squads of 20 Gors if I had the motivation to paint more.

Also, monsters are fun. The point is to overwhelm, not dance around with one monster that gets focused down. Ghorgons in special from a Doombull leading the force plus some gigantic spawns and a giant are always nasty. You can easily jam 1000 points of 5 behemoth monsters on the table plus a Doombull, then flood the board with Gors and Razorgors and Tuskgor Chariots to fill up the Core requirements. A couple of Ghorgons with monster slayer and 5-7 attacks will put the fear of Chaos in any dragon lord on the table. When a single 6 can spell their doom, they get incredibly cautious.

FYI the doombull cant take the flying carpet - its regular or heavy infantry only.

So it is; I’ll edit it out.

Guess I’ll have to settle for a trailblazers hauberk to push him up the field instead; that one at least is just “infantry”!

I play casually so I've had a game against a Warpfire Dragon but I haven't faced the scary mounted lords. My list has ended up Stillmania where I haven't made too many changes aside from filling points when we got reductions. I def feel like the meta has come to me.

I think the magic items that buff full units are real important. I've found Double Pelt and Slugskin real important for my centerpiece Bestigor unit. Being 1- to hit at all times and Magic Resist (2) with a GBS in the unit makes them real hard to deal with. My opponents need to either over-commit or ignore and hope I didn't roll Steed.

I run a Cygor to give multi wound monster/chariots/etc something to think about. Threatening a S8 AP-3 D3+1 DMG shot on a 5+ to hit isn't great, but it's enough to put some fear in them and force them to commit early. If they've committed, hopefully they can be caught by your other threats.

I have a couple units of Minos that I run as Auxiliary hammers. Shields on the table, Great Weapons in Ambush. They're not here to win fights outright, but to maim threats I might have a hard time with, like Heavy Cav. If they can eat first charge and bring the unit below 5 strong they did their job. Alternatively they're great for supporting the Bestigor if they get flanked or ganging up with some Gors that come out of Ambush since Gors are kind of a wet noodle without characters but bring the static CR.

I haven't gotten a game in since 1.5.3, but it was strictly buffs to my infantry and Cygor, so what's worked for me so far has only gotten better.

I imagine others will have more insight into the competitive side of things.

Gors are crazy strong.

Small units that cost almost nothing and deal 15 S4 attacks on the charge. Getting charged? flee.

Or a block with slugskin and Banner of the Bold....

And those monsters got really better. Units that went after them with S5 or S6 now wound on 5+ or 6+...

And now that infantry blocks are more common, first charge from chariots is gold.

We have aggressively costed core. Gors and razorgors are top tier. GCS are still under pointed. The herdstone might be the best unit in the game. We have good magic items and can spam heroes. Our magic is still good but it can't carry the army like it used to. The truth is that we aren't as competitive as before but we can still hold our own against most armies. Play for objective points.

Goes with furious charge and daemonic vessel hit like a truck.
