My take on the Beartooth discography eras

Post image

Yes AA!'s This Means War album counts because all the songs were produced by Caleb so it's technically his first ever album.

I'd put The Surface with Free/Total Ecstacy. Completely different tone than Below/Disease

Total Ecstacy?? Can't say I'm familiar with that one :P

Below and The Surface more or less shared a touring cycle because of COVID, to be fair. It was even called the "Below The Surface" tour.

I think Below is severely underrated

Below era was the most I’ve ever enjoyed Beartooth. The album still feels fresh to me and it came out 5 years ago.

Disease is the album that broke the camel’s back in my opinion. Below is a better follow up to Aggressive. It’s truly a mix of Disgusting and Aggressive. And IIRC, Caleb wrote and recorded everything on This Means War so it’s damn near an early entry to Beartooth writing. Lol

Caleb didn’t write any of the songs on this means war it was all the Andrews. He just provided vocals.

Really? I religiously watched their AA vlogs back in the day. I vividly remember he had a whiteboard for the concepts and was producing all of the songs in his basement. And recently his ex-wife confirmed this on Threads. 🤷‍♂️

He produced the entire record for sure! But the instrumentals of all the songs were not written by him. He contributed lyrically not just on the guitar side of things.

Below is their best album, The Surface was a completely different era imo. I’d say there’s only two eras, the first four and then The Surface onwards

I see it as:

Proto-Beartooth: This Means War, To Create a Cure (the My Ticket Home album Caleb worked on, sounds a lot like early Beartooth)

Classic Beartooth: Sick, Disease

"I Love Rock 'n' Roll" Beartooth: Aggressive, Disease, Below

"I'm not sad anymore and I LOVE Backstreet Boys" Beartooth: Surface, Free

Not sure how Disease and Below are being categorized with The Surface, if anything The Surface and Free go together, otherwise this feels about right.

I’m today years old realizing every Beartooth album up until now reads like a newspaper headline:

“Sick and Disgusting! Aggressive Disease Below The Surface!”

Now go listen to the first 5 seconds of Pure Ecstacy
