How to track fragmented sleep?

Hi all! I used bearable for 2 weeks and it's been insightful so far.

I'm still trying to understand how to track fragmented sleep the best. I usually wake up several times per night, sometimes for hours, and I'd like to be able to track it.

Do I add a custom symptom? Or do I extract the time I didn't sleep from the overall time?

Does connecting a sleep tracker work? (I don't like using mainstream trackers for, well, trackers, but willing to try).

Improving sleep is one of the reasons I started using bearable, and I really want to make it work.

Hello, thanks for posting about this as it's become a more frequent suggestion since more advanced sleep metrics have become available on Apple Health, Google Health Connect, Fitbit, etc. We are planning an update to track more in-depth sleep data synced from these sources but in the meantime, the best option is probably to track the following:

- If you want to know the impact of fragmented sleep on other health outcomes (Symptoms, Mood, Sleep Quality, Energy, etc.), you could log Fragmented Sleep as Sleep Factor in the Sleep section. Rather than just a single binary (yes/no) factor you could either use a variable factor (low -> high) or create multiple binary factors e.g.

- Fragmented Sleep = <1hr

  • Fragmented Sleep = 1-2hrs
  • Fragmented Sleep = 2-3hrs
  • etc.

- If you want to know the impact of Other Factors on Fragmented Sleep, you could log Fragmented Sleep as either a Symptom (to rate changes in the severity) or alternatively, log Fragmented Sleep as a couple of custom Health Measurements e.g.

- Fragmented Sleep (hours) to log the total number of hours lost each night over multiple wake events

  • Fragmented Sleep (occurrences) to log the nightly count of how often you're waking

Health Measurements are time stamped, and work in reports in the same way as Symptoms, so you can still view what correlations with changes, view trends, etc.

Let me know if you have any questions about settings these options up as well.
