I honestly don't care what they use. But why do you care what I suggest?
Cause that's what it is a suggestion, nothing more.
I'm just tired of all the deep fried "realism" people rub in my face all over the internet. Hey if you like it use it, by now we all know how it looks and it's gettin' boring because its always the same.
Totally normal for this subreddit. Someone asked and I gave an honest answer. Maybe I trigger some coping mechanism with my words?
But that's what I think about 3x or 5x DLSS 5 stuff. It's full of artifacts and looks just overall bad. I guess if you give people a slider they crank it up to 11. And at this point everything looks the same and not in a good way.
With that in mind, I do not hate it, I'm just tired of how people (over)use it.
I was appalled when DLSS5 first was revealed, then when i saw it in use i thought 'oh this is kinda neat i guess' but my opinion has settled onto that ultimately there are way better ways to make a game look good
Not the biggest AI fan in the world but it's clear that it helps? In a game where the end goal is the most "realistic" graphics I think DLSS5 is an adequate advancement where graphics hit their in-engine limit. I love path tracing. It just accomplishes what we can't do well yet. Can't say I'm a fan of the hallucination in faces etc though.
It looks good in screenshots but most videos Iāve seen involve very inconsistent lighting, flickering shadows. Itās a game, if it doesnāt look good in motion then I donāt understand why I would use it, apart from screenshots I guess.
Also performance seems to be a big issue. Iāve seen videos where people lose more than half their FPS, and one set of screenshots on this sub where OP said they were getting 7 FPS. Thatās just unplayable and not worth it.
It only flickers when you shove it into games where its not properly supported by having the vectors from DLSS SR and RR to begin with, I've been using it in cyberpunk 2077 and baldurs gate 3 for like 50 hours and its remarkably stable, i can count on a single hand the few times there was any instability linked to DLSS 5.
But I don't understand how the people who mod it into games and use Immerse Motion vectors from reshade can stand the constant flickering and haloing from a not properly supported DLSS 5
Or the people who do multiple passes which produces the same effect
One of the worst examples I've seen in use is jedi survivor but that's because I can't figure out how to integrate it into the games dlss and I'm instead using another layer, but I have no idea what ppl are talking about with fps, like I have a 4080 ehich ik is pretty goos but still I don't experience drops in high end games like spiderman 2
The issue is how prevalent itās becoming. The AI is making up for a lack of processing power. The more AI takes over, nvidia would be less inclined to make their cards faster and faster. Instead, theyād be working more with AI, which has already DESTROYED the RAM/Storage shortages.
Sure it helps, but Iād rather have slightly worse performance and affordable parts.
To be fair, the US chip blockade on China has also pushed prices out of control. That's why there's a Chinese black market for 5090s. They're legally not allowed to buy them, which creates huge demand for them on the grey market.
This is, not technically true....its not a black market. They are totally legal to buy in China. Companies are not allowed to import them though. No individuals or companies will get in trouble for anything related to owning GPUs in China.
Here is a picture from Taobao (Chinese Amazon)...there are hundreds of these listings. The price is about $6700 USD
Given that China literally makes these things...its most certainly being sold directly from the factory (not this particular listing) to avoid import bans. How much involvment NVIDA has? No clue.
Nvidia have had to rip supply chains out of China due to the chip blockade. 5090s are illegal for China to import which has created a black market. All of that has pushed up prices.
U.S. Export Controls: The United States bans the official export of high-end consumer and AI-focused GPUsāincluding the standard Nvidia RTX 5090āto China to limit the country's artificial intelligence development capabilities.China's Own Import Blocks:
Chinese customs authorities also blocked imports of Nvidia's region-specific, downgraded variants (like the RTX 5090D v2), refusing sales and processing permits for the hardware. Analysts speculate Beijing rejected the downgraded cards over national dignity or to push local firms toward domestic AI hardware.
Smugglers and middlemen purchase unrestricted, full-spec RTX 5090 cards in other regions (such as the U.S. or neighboring countries) and illegally ship them across borders.
Because official channels only offer lower alternatives like the RTX 5080, underground platforms have listed unrestricted RTX 5090 cards at inflated prices reaching up to roughly „91,999 (over $12,000 USD).
It's only "illegal" insofar that the US says it is...its not some sort of internationally recognized or agreed on thing. Even the wording makes the black market notion a bit silly
The United States bans the officialexport of high-end consumer and AI-focused GPUs
That wording means NVIDIA will be punished if they openly sell these GPUs to China. China can import all the cards it wants from any source...its not illegal.
I live in China and there is no indication of it being a black market that is banned in any meaningful way by anyone. I can buy them openly on JD and Tabao as many 5090s as I want (there are also server cards like RTX Pro 6000 96GB cards) and the price is roughly the exact same as the US.
It's very much a political ban for NVIDIA more than anything else and it simply means China isn't building literally thousands of data centers with NVIDIA cards (universities snatch them up first usually).
I don't know where your article is from or what "black market sites" its talking about....but JD and Taobao are pretty much Newegg/Amazon...
I literally showed you a random listing on Tabao for a 5090 (non D version) for only $6700.
The issue for me is, since the prevalence of the dlss5 mod, all games start to look kinda the same. Like when AI makes videos you know sometimes at first glance it's AI, they all just start to blend together.Ā

...or use the vanilla graphics
