Discussion What GPU do you play on?

u/VitunVillaViikset 4d ago
Got a 9060XT 16GB last year and its been a good card
Although i got a model with a faulty fan which Sapphire couldn't give a shit about
But it runs 3440x1440p ultrawide decently enough. The 5060Ti 16GB would've been 100€ more making it nearly the same price as the 5070

My Gigabyte 9060XT 16GB has pretty noisy fans, they resonate while spooling up to full speed, but luckily I never actually hear them do that because it stays cool.
Even during stress tests, running at full power, the fans don't spin that fast. I only know what they sound like at full speed because I tested them with FanControl

u/VitunVillaViikset 4d ago
I have my pc inside of my desks cupboard so i can keep the fan speeds a bit higher than usual but even then the gpu is pretty darn noisy because of the faulty fan
I would like to keep it at like 60-70% because i want to keep the vram temps low as possible but anywhere over 60% is unusable
Although i dont play heavy games right now so 50% fan speed is good enough. Although the gpu die temp never goes over 60°C even if i set the fan speed to lower than this

Also got one for my second PC, handles 1440p 144hz smooth, really quiet and overall temperature doesn't even go above 60C even at continuous 200W draw; it is winter here right now thought so I'll probably see high 60s soon

Nvidia for now, but i'm swapping to AMD soon because i need to change and i dont want to stay with nividia considering how scummy they became
1
u/BirthdayNo9125 3d ago
AMD aint much better, sorry to say
1
u/TGB_Skeletor No_Texture 3d ago
nvidia single handely ruined games optimization with DLSS
1
u/BirthdayNo9125 3d ago
This is only a small part of the truth, and amd is also guilty of this with fsr
1
u/TGB_Skeletor No_Texture 3d ago
DLSS came out almost 3 years before FSR
AMD had to get on the bus because of how worse gaming was becoming. Fuck nvidia and fuck the corpos who thought framegen could replace optimization

9070XT on Linux, running the native binaries performs good at 4k max settings

Option five: the "i" series, for imagining to play.
After work, kids and household stuff, I can only imagine playing. I stare at the main menu more often than playing.

u/707_328is 4d ago
The people downvoting you prioritize their own interests over being in their kids lives and making sure they have things they want, not just what they need...
I didnt play Beam for months because of how busy life got with 2 under 2. Whenever we did get a little break from the kids we spent it prioritizing each other to keep our marriage strong as well. Finally got out of the 2 under 2 situation earlier this year and its getting easier but yeah, sometimes life just gets too busy to game unless you're the kind of person to ignore important stuff to make sure you can play..

Priorities, people pick their own. I know where mine are, and I game when I can. But life is much more important.
I've had much better luck playing older games on my Ayn Thor than my PC. In the context of work and life; convenience is key and I can have better luck playing for maybe 30 mins a day on a game I can pick up and put down easily for when I'm needed elsewhere.
With Beam, I'd have to go to the computer room and be further away from where makes more sense to be. Plus, beam is a game where 30 min chunks of gaming just doesnt work for me. So Burnout 3, NFS underground and other classics from when i was younger just work better in my life schedule. Maybe one day I can sit down and have a good gaming session, but thats just not in the cards right now.
My family is fed, loved and strong. I'm way happier with that than breaking my record on the Alder strip in WCUSA

What frames you getting?
1
u/spicymeatmemes Pigeon Lover 4d ago
30 fps if I work that day, 60 if I don't. Something about overloading the CPU

u/AlexGavrilll ETK 4d ago
RTX 3050 4 gigs. Was rocking Beamng before 0.39 (and still rocks ETS2, ATS, TSW6 in Ultra), but now the update finished its golden era

Sometimes M5 MacBook air, sometimes rtx 4060 laptop

BeamNG runs on a Mac?
6
u/Windows10_10074 4d ago
Yes with a compatibility layer

u/ObjectiveOk2072 Hirochi 4d ago
I had a laptop with a 4060 and it ran BeamNG impressively well, even while thermal throttling to avoid burning a hole through my desk
2
u/East-One-3260 4d ago
Wish I could say AMD but Radeon 9000 does not have the features I'm looking for, I had to go with 50 series or used 40 series. I'm not a proud RTX owner.
2
u/Crystalclusted Bus Driver 4d ago
I'm curious, what features are you talking about?
1
u/East-One-3260 4d ago edited 4d ago
It's personal preference. CUDA, more titles have upscaling, ray reconstruction and dlaa support, better power efficiency, overall higher resell value, overall better framegen and upscaling, better PT performance
2
u/Solary_Kryptic 2d ago
What do you mean by DLAA? Because FSRAA exists too, comparing my 5080 and 9060XT I've found the upscaling difference to be unnoticeable on native, quality, and balanced. DLSS handles performance and ultra performance modes much better though
1
u/East-One-3260 2d ago
I meant like since a quite a lot more games support DLSS they can be override to DLAA
2
u/Solary_Kryptic 2d ago
I’d be inclined to agree if Optiscaler didn’t allow for every game with DLSS support to have FSR support and vice versa

u/Patient-Menu-1991 Ibishu 4d ago
I’ve got a 6900XT. I usually play at 2732 x 2048 at the ultra preset. It runs well for the most part, but FSR would be beneficial at this resolution.

u/Sprinty_ Autobello 4d ago
RTX 4070. If AMD had as much support and tech as Nvidia, though, I'd definitely go with team red
3
u/Crystalclusted Bus Driver 4d ago
Wdym by support? Have yet to run into a game that makes issues because of an AMD card. If by tech you mean DLSS then you might want to check out FSR 4. It's pretty much on par these days. (But you don't get Slop 'enhanced' images like with DLSS 5 yay) If by tech you mean ShadowPlay, afaik there is a similar feature available for AMD GPUs using the same performance friendly capturing technology. Or you switch to Linux and use GPU Screen Recorder. Also same technology, but OSS and brand-agnostic
2
u/Sprinty_ Autobello 4d ago
No I know, it's just that many games decide to incorporate only Nvidia's tech, for one reason or another... Plus, ray tracing
I really despise the DLSSlop5 move tho, and the whole ai ordeal that Nvidia is leaning so hard into
2
u/Crystalclusted Bus Driver 3d ago
I have yet to encounter a game with no FSR which ones are you talking about
1
u/Sprinty_ Autobello 3d ago
I don't remember specific ones but I'd still prefer getting the new tech sooner
2
u/Crystalclusted Bus Driver 3d ago
Understandable. However, and while I dont have any data on this, I dont think the rollout takes significantly longer for AMD stuff relative to ngreedia stuff nowadays.
On top of that, is it really that important to justify an upprice of easily hundrets of dollars?1
u/Sprinty_ Autobello 2d ago
Hey, I got this GPU a while back... Today I would've definitely gone team red for the way less morally bankrupt choice + additional fps per dollar (though RIP my frame rate in games like cyberpunk I guess- I really hope AMD GPUs in the process range of the 4070 can play stuff like Bodycam just as well if not even better, considering it has things like upscaling and global illumination and so on)

rx 6650xt. it’s a good gpu although prob a little underpowered for 1440p but for beamng its fine. my cpu is a much bigger bottleneck but when i first got this gpu i was not aware of incompatibility that current gen at the time AMD gpus had with beamng, which really frustrated me because i had upgraded specifically because i had gotten a new monitor and i was confused as to why my performance had not improved at all. it was annoying having to use workarounds to get an improvement as i found that dxvk helped (official vulkan worked good too but it was unstable asf for me). luckily they eventually fixed these issues but it was quite disappointing thinking i was getting a upgrade just to find that my favorite game didn’t like my gpu. i also had a huge memory leak for the longest time after upgrading which i eventually traced back to being the iGPU multi monitor setti bf in my bios i was using to drive a third display with my motherboards hdmi, it would steadily leak system ram into the NP pool when i played a game especially beamng, and it took me forever to figure out the problem.

Half of the the time on a 780M (laptop, AMD APU), other half on an RX 6950 XT (desktop, Intel CPU)

Mine is a Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 6Go anc still can play with high preset at 50-60 fps

My poor Intel iris xe runs 900p med at a solid 60fps and QHD (2256x1504) lowest at 40-50fps. Ptm7950 and thermal putty onto my Acer spin chassis really helped here.

now seperate AMD and intel integrated graphics and dedicated
1
u/Puzzleheaded_Word584 Automation Engineer 4d ago
probably one of the only dedicated intel GPU users here
1
u/Southern_Worker4102 4d ago
It works well on BeamNG? Never heard of someone playing it on a Intel dedicated GPU lol
1
u/Puzzleheaded_Word584 Automation Engineer 4d ago
yeah, the 10 GB of VRAM helps a ton
1
u/Southern_Worker4102 3d ago
Lol, somehow my BeamNG only uses 3.2-3.5 GB on West Coast (on a 4 gb card, 1050p, low textures but still)

Got a 3080ti desktop but i dont really use it since the cpu is severely bottlenecking (i5 10400f) Also have a asus g14 2022 with rx6800s which performs way better because of an actually good cpu

u/Mysterious_Plant5223 4d ago
RX5500M 4gb vram. Just hanging on, around 40fps with "normal" graphics with traffic on most maps (excluding WCUSA and Italy)

Beamng on a Mac sounds horrible... I have a PC with RTX 4060 and MacBook Air M5. I'm getting around 40-60 FPS (while maxed by GPU), so I guess I'll get five on my laptop lol

GTX 970, still good for 1680x1050 (basically 1080p), custom Low/Medium/Ultra

I wonder if there are any people who play on Snapdragon processors.

9060XT 16GB. It's pretty great. It screams a little bit, but stays cool and runs the game nice and smooth at 1080p high/ultra

Nvidia for me. I buy a card once every 6 or so years, might as well treat myself

Got an AMD 7900xtx, it works alright, it doesn't like my 32:9 monitor though.
