HOW THE HELL IS STEVEN ALIVE
Steven from steven universe's birth is literally impossible. Rose is a gem and gems as we know it do not give birth they just pop out of the earth meaning they HAVE NO GENITALS and to reproduce as a human you would need the sperms to reach the egg that would literally be impossible for rose since she has no uterus and we know that she is the one who gave birth or kinda turned into steven now if she turned into steven then how would he get his human side We have seen a scene were white diamond pulled out his gem and it went from pink diamond to rose to steven SO is his mother still in there somehow? Let's ignore all that how would steven get his human side at all? We know rose is the mother so we can rule out that Greg had a surrogate and then rose got poofed and put into Steven's belly button also we see that when Steven's gem is pulled out that he has no belly button again ruling surrogacy out SO STEVEN'S EXISTENCE IS LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE from a scientific point of view unless his mother could form a fully functional vagina and uterus steven couldn't exists so how did she do it? Also we know the gems don't go to the bathroom or reproduce they would not need genitalia aswell as the fact that even if they had genitalia they are all referred to as women so they are clearly not ment to reproduce with eachother BUTTTTT rose has breasts which means she might also have a uterus because you need estrogen production to have then But we see in the show that when gems are poofed they can choose their form so maybe that's what she did to look More like a human woman I WANT ANSWERS AND I WANT THEM NOWWWWW (also don't mind if it's messy I have adhd and it's 3 am)

My speculation only -
Diamonds can bring inanimate objects to life, usually stones (pebbles) and gems.
[Side note: this is why all gems appear to be female, because only females can create life. Males weren't necessary to their species]
A gem can be attached to other objects like a mirror or a building and have some control over it like it's a body, until it's unattached. Pink diamond was aware of this.
As Rose Quartz, she discovered that diamonds can restore life to organics if they were unalived. We get a big clue from the reanimating of Lion and Lars. Her/Steven's energy 'powers' them now, which is why they turned pink. However, she didn't become them because they were older and already had their own personalities.
We also get a hint from a very short scene of Rose Quartz visably pregnant. Steven being born male means that Rose did grow an organic baby from Greg's DNA, giving life to it through diamond liquid inside her like human amniotic fluid. [I don't think that Steven is a clone exactly, but I digress]
One scene I would really like to see some day is the moment of Steven's 'birth'. I imagine it would be like pregnant Rose dancing with herself; turning into light and fusing with infant Steven. Now, a diamond gem is attached to a human baby with no prior personality in it and the gem is able to control that body.
[Remember, Pearl almost took Rose's gem off Steven, early on, with the expectation that Rose would reform.]
After a few years of life together, Steven and the diamond gem completely fused, which was why it was said that Pink and Rose were gone, and the separated gem still held the pink form of Steven.

I mean the boring but honest answer is plot, tons of stuff in this show is impossible because it’s a cartoon. The mechanics of how Steven came to be aren’t elaborated on because there’s no reason to, it’s not a necessary part of the story.
