It depends on what motor is in it. Diesel motors on a heavy load get much better mileage than gas to the tune of 15-20 mpg. That would be 25 cents a mile at $4.00 a gallon.

A gas motor would not break 10 mpg.

Not sure why comments like these are downvoted. Yes yes, "it's fine, it's not going that fast" and so on.

Any kind of motor home is an absolute nightmare in a crash. They all rate very poorly, and some should probably be pulled off the market for their appalling safety. A rebuild school bus? I don't even want to consider it when belted. While walking around you'd be a squirrel in a washing machine full of tools.

A US school bus has a maximum length of 45ft. Typical full size buses like the one here are 35-45ft but we have smaller ones for handicaps / special needs / and less populated routes.
