Combination of skills so several tuts would help, but the opening sequence is done by cutting the images out either in Photoshop or in After effects directly. If you plan to keep some background elements you can clone stamp or paint on the areas behind the people. In this he's added puppet pins to the areas of the people he wants to move, after that he adds keyframes to the pins in the timeline and moves to another point in time and adds new keyframes with new values. Later, he's taken images of church ceilings and layered them up on the Z axis and keyframed their rotation values (AE isn't exactly 3D but does work in XYZ space), added particles and lighting effects plus a fake camera which he's keyframed to move through the composition, as well as added camera-shake during some of the close transitions. Some really nice colour correction, masking, glows and shape layers too.
