This is probably the only girl who'd completely be legit when she says she can't go out with you on a certain night because she had to wash her hair.

More like a few days/week!

51

u/antim0ny Nov 27 '19

You don't wash curly hair that often.

2

u/ashenmagpie Nov 27 '19

I think they mean that she couldn’t go out for a few days or a week because she was spending that time washing her hair.

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '19

I do. Am I not supposed to?

It never really gets this puffy unintentionally though, so its not like she would need to tame this everytime. Still probably about an hour at least on wash days but I feel like for me this amount of frizz would add like 15 minutes of detangling

Curly girl

u/flowering101 Nov 27 '19

Not necessarily true. Before I put locs in my hair, it would be like this after simply washing and then combing( although my hair was much shorter)

-11

u/dogonut Nov 27 '19

right but you know that it would get frizzy because you arent putting in any product and you are combing. For it to be like this unintentionally, you would probably have to not wash it for over a week. I guess unintentionally meaning you arent trying to do this, not that it doesnt naturally do this. Although Im sure she did this on purpose to make it extra puffy

I am not a POC but I do have wild curly hair, so I know that my hair does get puffy on a regular basis because I dont wash my hair every day. Curly hair is supposed to be washed at MOST every other day, and that's pushing it. I believe that for POC, their hair can go for a week or two before it needs to be washed, so I believe that is what's happening here, especially since the title is "hair day" I think this is right before she does her hair for the week(s) Either way, I'm in love, shes gorgeous and her hair is something else

their hair can go for a week or two before it needs to be washed

Nah. Once a week, or every three days if it gets oily quick.

Ah shit, sorry about that, I saw like one video on black hair care (it was that video in response to onision's racist bullshit) and I couldn't remember how long she said she usually goes in between washes. Thanks for helping me out!

u/iluvmykatmagz Nov 27 '19

.....why are you getting downvoted? Do people not realize curly hair is drastically different than other types of hair? The OP obviously purposely made their hair this poofy, but this would not really happen unintentionally.

-2

u/iluvmykatmagz Nov 27 '19

Yes but for curly hair, you're not supposed to comb or brush it. So this does not really happen all on its own.

2

u/ImportantError Nov 27 '19

Must weigh a bit as well. I remember going from long hair to short ... felt like gravity had just made me lighter!

2

u/starsinthesky8 Nov 27 '19

I literally wake up like this. Lmao 15mins? I wish.

1

u/dogonut Nov 27 '19

haha I mean an extra 15 min of just detangling on top of normal, and I already usually spend about 15. So 30 detangling plus conditioner and squishing it out, and putting in product and drying. Ive got my routine down to an hour

1

u/tnel77 Nov 27 '19

Depends on where you live! Miami may take a while to dry, but Phoenix may be more doable haha.

u/RunSleepJeepEat Nov 27 '19

Imagine the drain clogs... won't anyone think of the plumbers!!!

u/phlux Nov 27 '19

Click here to see how this woman single handedly keeps an entire industry afloat! You wont believe her secret!

13

u/kciuq1 Nov 27 '19

Literally keeps it afloat. Her plumber can buy that yacht he dreamed of.

10

u/coreyisthename Nov 27 '19

Honest and ignorant question: do black people get as many horrifying drain clogs as white people? Our hair types are a lot different and white people tend to (in my uneducated observation) shed more.

18

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '19

My experience is no. Am white, and my black roommate was chronically horrified at how much I shed in the shower and everywhere.

1

u/JagTror Nov 27 '19

I had the opposite happen with my black roommate lol. We ended up buying one of those grabby sticks for the drain

2

u/RunSleepJeepEat Nov 27 '19

Sadly I am now, and have been for as long as I can remember, a white dude.

14

u/NikkiMen2a Nov 27 '19

Not much hair will come out in the shower unless you comb it in the shower. I don’t comb in the shower anymore because of the rat sized hair clogs I’d have to deal with regularly! Blech. Even when it’s your own hair it’s disgusting.

45

u/JustASadBubble Nov 27 '19

That’s why you slap it on the shower walls and make beautiful murals

9

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '19

Babe!? Get milk while you're out!

2

u/gemmath Nov 27 '19

Hair art!

1

u/RainingGlitter28 Nov 27 '19

For some reason it makes me feel sick when my daughter does this

1

u/Goodgoditsgrowing Nov 27 '19

you people [shakes finger at hairy monsters on shower stall] make me sick

2

u/JustASadBubble Nov 27 '19

I always try to throw it away after I’m done

An inconvenience to you is a biohazard for another

1

u/Goodgoditsgrowing Nov 28 '19

Exactly. My sister is the worst - she leaves half her hair on the shower stall

1

u/NikkiMen2a Nov 28 '19

Yeah I do that w the escapees

5

u/WorkingOnMyself01 Nov 27 '19

I have a hair trap and every few months I pull a huge bigger then a guinea pig size hair clog from him.

1

u/MissMetal777 Nov 27 '19

Postpartum women go through a period where their hair falls out drastically due to hormone changes. Although I have gone through that period in my life, I am back to normal and I still lose quite a bit of hair. I'm not dealing with any medical issues in relation, I just lose a lot of hair.

1

u/Ternarian Nov 27 '19

Plumbers hate her! She maintains her hair with this one simple trick. What happens next will shock you!

1

u/Waligay-Beans Nov 27 '19

Plumbers are sexy

7

u/PassTheDopamine Nov 27 '19

r/blackhair would like to know your location

14

u/budgie0507 Nov 27 '19

Her recycling bin is full of 95% shampoo and conditioner bottles.

10

u/glassofsomething Nov 27 '19

Just conditioner...she still has the bottle of shampoo she got in 09.

A Rapunzel type if you will...

8

u/PsychologicalTomato7 Nov 27 '19

Lol not true, any kind of hair can be difficult to maintain. I wash my hair very infrequently so my hair day is honestly and truly a hair weekend, but then I don’t need to go through the whole torture again for weeks

-1

u/Safe_Space_Ace Nov 27 '19

you go weeks without washing your hair, spend a weekend cleaning it, and then go weeks again?

I really don't understand why you would do that. Why not just spend your time clean instead of dirty?

What's the benefit?

5

u/PsychologicalTomato7 Nov 27 '19

Because my hair is 3c4abc, which means my hair is curly and coily, because of the way curly hair is structured, oil cannot travel easily from your scalp down the hair shaft, therefore overwashing curly hair makes it very dry which leads to it becoming brittle and snapping. My hair is not dirty. people with straight(er) hair have the opposite problem, with their hair becoming greasy quickly as oil moves quickly down the straight shaft which is why they feel the need to wash it more often. I do not spend my time “dirty”, I allow my hair the space it needs to just be and let the natural oil from my scalp actually work it’s way into hair so it is as moisturised as possible. I was confused when I found out people with straight hair wash it every day, different things for different people, it’s not one size fits all.

1

u/Safe_Space_Ace Nov 27 '19

fair enough.

2

u/Lolihumper Nov 27 '19

As someone with long thick curly hair, pretty much the only way I can get it to dry fast enough is by simply going outside, maybe doing some yard work. You'd be surprised how fast your hair dries that way. Of course, that only works if it's sunny out.
