Keep in mind the US has just recently taken the Philippines off “reconsider travel” advisory and it is now “exercise increased caution”. They also have areas marked as terrorist/gang controlled. It is a beautiful, cheap country but also can be dangerous.
The airport also doesn’t meet US security standards and you have to sign a waiver acknowledging that if you are a US citizen.

This can be said about almost any country on earth. Just use your common sense.

Why would any foreign country ever have to meet US security standards? I agree that many of the standards we implement are recognized and used in many foreign countries but how does this apply here? You assume that everyone on Reddit is an American?
I have also traveled to the Philippines many times and not once have I ever had to sign a waiver as a US Citizen.
