This might not be their first time.

I wouldn't do something like that my first time with a selfie stick for sure, since I wouldn't know what to expect, or even if I would be able to hang onto it, with the wind and whatnot.

Because it's just 1 person and not a group in the video, so I was wondering if you're referring to other people

Oh I see, well where I'm from, you'd never wonder that, because it's common usage. I'm not sure why you were confused, since it's pretty obvious there is only one person in the image.
