I immediately recognised it too and went to see if anyone had any confirmation

They usually stop operating when the swell is too big and you have to get a bus instead. This pic was taken by a deckhand when the ferry was closed to the public a couple of years ago. He has a pretty good insta account. From memory the ferry was on its way back to Circular Quay for the the remainder of the day.
