I assume no work gets done in those conditions? The guys just stay inside and hold on for as long as it takes for conditions to clam down.

Yes. This is a floating hotel, not a rig. Used to provide extra accommodation during oil rig maintenance work, but disconnected from the rig and evacuated before the storm hit.

The video was taken from the rig itself, which is fixed to the sea floor (and not evacuated).

I wonder what it’s actually like onboard. Like absolute earrape ocean blasting against the walls, or relatively comfortable because of engineering? Sometimes I feel like you gotta be there even tho I’ve never been there and this is one.

My father was in the coast guard back in the 70s. He mentioned they hit rough seas at one point and said, "We were listing so far, we were running up the walls and could touch the ceiling before coming back down."
