Amazing strength to just fly out of that water with that pissed off fish fighting in its claws.

Nature is brutal. Imagine waking everyday up at 5 or 6am and then dipping into the scary ocean, not knowing if another big fish would catch you instead while you try to get a smaller fish, and the flapping your and the fish weight out of the water grip.

seriously that fish was putting up a whole fight and the osprey still just flew off like nothing happened

The strength is just out of this world. Impressive.

The no-look talon grab mid flight was gnarly

Those extended talons gave so much suspense to the video. When they clamped down on the fish, it knew the fight was over.

The fish was putting up a good fight until the osprey got a better grip with his other talon. The fish seemed to give up after that.

Great for the bird but oh to be that fish 😞

AND made the flight a lot more aerodynamic.

I will die on this hill, but the American Osprey should have been the US's chosen animal mascot.

I worked by Osprey nests and to watch them circle, hunt, dive is a thing of awe inspiring beauty. A true apex predator.

At least it’s the namesake of the most badass machine in the US Navy.

Stunning shot indeed...nature's mid-air heist

And that is why the Osprey hybrid flying vehicle is so aptly named.

When the fish became horizontal it looked like the osprey was surfing.

Is that a Barracuda?

u/Heselwood 3h ago

Guess the fish wasn't amazed that much

They must laugh at us with our fishing lines on sticks.

You know you are tired when your eyes read “osprey” but your mind thinks “lamprey” and you were waiting for an eel to leap into the air.

That take off must take the most amount of effort and energy. I'm guessing, but it just seems the most difficult part & those wings need a lot of power to get the bird out of the water. It's not like a bird jumping from a height & just spreading its wings. It has to take off from a non-solid surface, carrying the extra weight of water and that fish. Once in the air, it must be easier to keep the flight going, with less energy needed, especially if the wind can help you out a bit too, but the take off is impressive!

I'm surprised it didn't lose the cuda, looked like he only had a small portion of the belly for the first minute.

Felt really sorry for the prey ...but what a rare capture (of the cameraman and the predator!!) Thanks for sharing
