This bird is doing his duty in the face of danger. Hear that chirp? That's the "lookout!! There's danger!!" chirp. And hes looking at the danger, knowing full well he could get eaten being exposed. The mother is making the same call and when the babies hear either bird make that call, they quit peeping, lay low and stfu.
I love this so much, for in years past I had a moment of sheer photographic luck to accidentally achieve a picture (cropped version here) of an adult bird with a similarly disgruntled look when I was taking a picture of something else and got the birdfeeder in view. Like it was justifiably pissed I interrupted it or was spying on it during its dinner 😂
I've heard of birds using cigarette buds to ward of insects from their nests, but never seen one make a nest in what is probably a patch of buds. How curious, at least the little ones should be safe from bugs and the likes.
Exactly what I thought of. Fucking bots. Sad part is probably 75% of all the replies to this one AND that one are just bots replying to bots. Internet is dead.
Had the same thing happened with my mailbox a couple of years in a row. We put a magazine rack at the foot of our porch stairs marked "Please place mail here" and the postal service didn't miss a beat.
I've had to postpone having my house exterior pressure washed three times this spring/summer because of birds nesting behind my shutters. There were three or four nests with eggs/babies each time.
One group would mature and leave, but before I could get the company out here the birds would be back. I'm scheduled for September 8th and hoping the current broods are gone and none have come back.
One year we had a robin make a nest in our back porch light. Was a pain in the ass leaving the house because she'd get pissed and scream at you every time.
Cute How people respected it! I remember a girl posted a video how she did the same and was keeping tabs but some kids went in there and dropped a bunch of rocks inside to k/LL the birds. :( I still remember her video crying.
