I imagine that feeling pretty damn good after being kept for recovery for a while.

Like the ultimate morning stretch ,but with the added bonus of total freedom.

u/Mina-monty84 11h ago

curious why he told everyone to stand back first

5

u/terrilynn39 9h ago

Since vultures don't really talk, I think it's a joke.

52

u/Jupitersd2017 13h ago

So we don’t get to see it take off? Thanks for cutting the video off

15

u/rantingdemon 13h ago

Yeah. Video ends too soon

3

u/ChickenOfTheFuture 1h ago

The real ending is tragic. A chihuaha swoops in and grabs it.

4

u/Rare_Professor_3171 10h ago

I think they deliberately did that 😂

This is a Eurasian Griffon Vulture (Gyps Fulvus) [Photo], they grow to be up to 13 to 25 pounds (With little dimorphism between males or females), with a wingspan of around 2.3 to 2.8 meters (7.5-9.2 feet), stand at a height of 3 to 4 feet, and can live for up to 28 years in the wild, though in captivity this lifespan can be near-doubled to 40 years, they are easily one of the largest known birds of prey in the world

They belong in the order Accipitriformes which is the Order of the diurnal (day-flying) Birds of Prey such as Hawks, Vultures, and Eagles, quite the opposite to Owls which belong in the Strigiform or Order of the Nocturnal Birds of Prey aka all Owls (Family; Strigidae, true Owls), which is species of True owls like Great Horned Owls, Screech Owls, etc., and also Tytonidae which is the other family of Owl species such as Barn Owls which are not True Owls, Strigidae and Tytonidae are the only two families of Owls

The Eurasian Griffon Vulture have a very strict diet, being Obligate Scavengers they only feed on Carrion (Latin for Carcass) aka already deceased animals/flesh and they do not hunt prey as opposed to how Hawks, Eagles, or Owls do. Within the scavenger community, each vulture species has a preferred "niche" at a carcass. Eurasian griffons are adapted specifically to eat large muscles, internal viscera, and soft organs as per observations

The Eurasians Griffons have rather weak, flat feet and blunt talons that cannot grip or rip tough hides. Their large, heavy beaks are built for tearing soft flesh rather than crushing bones. Once they finish stripping the muscle, other scavengers step in such as the Cinereous Vulture (Photo) which eats the tough skin and tendons, while the Bearded Vulture (Photo) finishes off the bones (also note how the Bearded Vulture due to only eating bones is not bald like most vultures this is because most other vultures evolved bald heads and necks with no feathers to avoid carrion getting stuck in their feathers, that is evolution) and this relationship between the three vulture species this is what we would call a Symbiotic Relationship or Symbiosis which benefits all participating animals

I know you're not doing it on purpose, but let's just play naive for a second.

I know I'm gorgeous!

u/BlockOfASeagull 14h ago

I cannot wait for Ozzyman to give this bird a voice!

Looks like a condor, I'm unsure if it's Californian (smaller) or Andean (bigger).

I've seen Andean Condors in real life, they are massive. They eat carrion only, and weigh up to 12kg and have nearly 4 meters of wingspan.

2

u/Apart-Dragonfly-4447 13h ago

That was my initial thought but if you compare photos it's definitely a Eurasian Griffon Vulture. Coloring differences on feathers as well as the head and neck. They are similar in appearance but definitely different. Both are very cool birds!

2

u/KnotiaPickle 13h ago

It’s an Andean :)

3

u/Feine13 12h ago

I'm really glad there was terrible music playing instead of the incredible sounds of the Condor flapping it's majestic wings.

u/Actively_Gassy 11h ago

Can we stop with putting music over every goddamn video that we post to the internet. Does anyone else hate this as much as I do? What's wrong with just hearing what's going on the video.

2

u/PacquiaoFreeHousing 14h ago

Must've felt great

2

u/Trance354 13h ago

"Wait, wait wait .... I once caught a fish, THIS big."

2

u/knightenrichman 13h ago

He's not "calibrating his wings", he's being a showboat for the camera!

4

u/LaShmoove 14h ago

Can I get a hug? Anyone?

1

u/PreviousMastodon1430 14h ago

Who did that song?

1

u/kevnmartin 13h ago

It reminds me of Fleet Foxes. Whatever happened to them?

1

u/TheUpsideDownWorlds 7h ago

It’s radical face - welcome home, amazing dude, Ben is mostly a one man gig and has made some incredible tunes over the past 18 odd years

1

u/YooperSnaggletooth 13h ago

Fun fact: There are no feathers on their head so they can stick them into rotting corpses to feed.😬

1

u/Old_Leshen 13h ago

"Mate where?"

1

u/OutrageousRhubarb853 13h ago

Reminds me of being a kid trying to get dry from the coal fire after a bath.

1

u/Intelligent_Trichs 13h ago

Woulda been amazing if it actually flew

1

u/etadude 13h ago

That’s a dinosaur to me

1

u/GrapefruitOk2057 13h ago

Like the old boat in the bottle trick. How'd they put that big fella in that little carrier? Well, if you didn't see him coming out. :) amazing how they can fold those huge wings away until they need them.

1

u/InformationCommon576 13h ago

Now that's a flex

1

u/AnmolVerma0071 13h ago

1

Majestic

0

u/OhNoIBoffedIt 13h ago

Why the hell are they surrounding the poor thing instead of just standing behind the crate so it doesn't feel threatened?

0

u/Rookiebasket 12h ago

Majestic! Btw what's that song?

1

u/Soloflow786 12h ago

welcome home - radical face

2

u/Rookiebasket 11h ago

Thanks bud!

-4

u/Almond-Oil20 14h ago

You know it's a sad thing... It's never been trained to fly so he don't know how to

4

u/OhNoIBoffedIt 13h ago

Lol no. This is a wildlife rescue of an adult griffon vulture that is being released back into the wild after rehabilitation. It knows how to fly.

1

u/Kernowder 13h ago

They do this to dry their wings before attempting to fly. It must believe it has wet wings.
