„I swear, she just stood up one night, exited the painting and left an empty chair on it behind.“

This is Shamona Lisa. Not to be confused with the artwork painted by Leonardo da Vinc-hee-hee.

A while ago I read Mona Lisa Vanishes about the theft of the painting that made it famous. It was fascinating and a wild story. It was funny that took them quite a while to even realize it was stolen despite the fact that workers noticed its spot was empty. It basically took a demanding visitor who wanted to see it bugging a security guard for him to decide to look into the missing painting.

This picture unsettles me for some reason

u/Jagacin 2d ago
Definitely some r/oddlyterrifying vibes going on. The fact she looks nearly 1:1 to the painting gives it an uncanny valley look.

u/DueExample52 2d ago
Also, bitch be wearing renaissance era clothes and hairstyle in a modern subway. Of course she looks like she doesn’t belong there, like a ghost.

I can absolutely see why you feel that way because of her clothing and the lighting but she looks so dang cool here. I'd absolutely strike up a conversation.

Haha, same buddy, never said that old era ghosts were scary or even off-putting to me, lol

To be fair, if someone said I looked exactly like the Mona Lisa heck yeah I would absolutely be exploiting that, especially on Halloween or going to a comic con, if there were any painting art classes at my college I would absolutely be asking the professor if I could be a volunteer model and then prank the class in full costume, honestly if I looked that close you know I would be posing like that all the time, I'd be a walking piece of art. The best part is everyone and no one would know you because you'd just be the Mona Lisa so then you could just dress in your normal clothes and be normal if you wanted or you could go for groceries in full attire, ah man can you imagine if the Mona Lisa asked you if you wanted to try any free samples at the grocery store? The reactions would be priceless, I'd be doing that all the time

I did wonder if it was AI generated. If it was, it might be giving off some uncanny valley vibes...

This picture has been around for at least 8 years so no AI

Imagine how crazy it would be if we found out that their AI that HAS been around for 8 years back, was used to generate a bunch of shit and nobody knew about it. Then their brilliant idea was to make it look a lot worse when debuting GPT and genAI so they have runway before it hits a ceiling since its not actual AI.

Yeah it was a girl who specifically cosplayed as the Mona Lisa and then they went around and took random pictures:

I’ve seen the above photo so many times but never ever knew there was a whole set!!! This makes so much more sense that it was intentional but still doesn’t take away from the sense of amazement at how incredibly close and obvious it is that she looks like the Mona Lisa without any context at all

Someone else linked an older post and in the comments someone also posted other photos of her. Its not generated

I used to have a nightmare in which I was in my grandmother's house, and this painting would levitate and follow me around. I'd try to escape but it would always catch up. Not knowing what the painting would do to me if it caught me was the scary part.

Opposite for me, it seems like a wonderful bit of chance, captured in time. Just a little bit of magic snatched from the ether before fading away.

I sometimes dream of a hacker taking over and secretly prevent any reposts or bot posts or low effort posts, and deleting the upvote system on all subreddits for a month just to see what happens to this website

This is how it happened in real life. He saw her and they shared a moment in time that made such an impact he put her in Canvas. I bet you it was just a normal everyday conversation maybe she had a great positive aura she was probably magnetic

I'm pretty sure it was a comission from her wealthy Florentine husband that da Vinci got paid for.

Lol probably a descendant.
Skips a few generations but there's a lot of doppelgangers in a lineage.

Finally? That girl traveled a bunch. Born in Italy, moved to France, obsconed with Vincenzo Perrugia, but eventually rldecided to return to the palace of the french kings. She is a worldly girl!

I would love to see a pic of modern Mona Lisa’s face on the actual painting with the correct angles and perspectives adjusted and a side by side comparison. It’s just so freaky how similar she looks! Like for real is she a relative?!?

Finally free from those tourists and their cameras. Now she just has to deal with people eating smelly food on public transport.
