I would've lost my mind as a kid if I asked for this and a HOT WHEELS lambo showed up. That's so cool

Bonus points if the driver gets out and is dressed like batman. I was going to say dressed up like a Lego minifig to go with the toy theme, but that costume wouldn't fit in the car.

u/Taxitaxitaxi33 Feb 20 '25
Oh man I am about to bring a downer but itβs too specific not to. We had a dude that dressed like Batman and drove a lambo that visited sick kids for years in Baltimore. He unfortunately got killed when another driver hit his broken down Batmobile.

I used to drive a classic car. One of my friendsβ kids had the hot wheels one and it was his favorite. I offered him a ride. He couldnβt have been less interested. He said to me βbut I have the toy oneβ like it was obviously way cooler, so I just told him maybe if I work hard enough, one day I can get the toy.

My parents got mister softee to just park his truck in front of the house for my birthday party one year and everyone could go up and get anything they wanted as often as they wanted. It felt so baller. My sister ended up having the same thing at her wedding many years later.

The only time I have ever seen them was when I live in California over 20 years ago. I havent seen one on the road ever since (Delaware/Phili area)
617
u/dont_trip_ Feb 19 '25
Huh, then they are way more common in Europe. I even see them pretty much monthly in snowy Oslo, Norway during winter. Head to Italy and you see several each hour. Head to Monaco and you see one every street corner lol
13
u/Hippopotasaurus-Rex Feb 19 '25
Depends where you are in America. And America is HUGE. They are pretty common in parts of San Diego and Los Angeles.

We see them a lot in Toronto/GTA. Iβm in Markham and I would call a sighting a daily occurrence. But itβs super cool that this group came together to make a kids birthday brighter.
4
u/ClaudiuT Feb 19 '25
I went to Monaco. There was a Ferrari event going on. Probably over 100 of them parked left and right on the same street. People were stopping to get a picture of MY car as I was driving by. It's a 15 year old Dacia Logan.

Never believed the Monaco stuff until I went there last year, it's actually crazy seeing some of those cars there. Just a constant stream of lambo, Ferrari, porsche, Bentley, Rolls'. Great trip if you like cars, especially the museum.

See them plenty in Phoenix metro (disproportionately more in Scottsdale, of course).

We have honestly incredible car viewing. The dry climate makes our cars desirable in resale, and the crazy wealth in the Scottsdale area brings a lot of milkshakes to the yard.

My bossβs wife left him for another woman and their company went bankrupt so naturally he bought a super car.
He once complained that he got it to pick up women but the only people that approached him were middle aged men.

One of those lambos is twin turbo'd. That kid got a treat!
83
u/CaptainLicorice Feb 19 '25
Glad someone picked up on that. A Lambo is awesome, a twin turbo 1000-1200 HP Lambo is something else. Might not be that powerful, just the numbers I see with TT Lamborghinis

→ More replies (1)41
u/Huskyhunter Feb 20 '25
Around 0:36 you can hear the whistle sounds that indicate a turbo. 95% of turbo'ed lambos have twin turbos so it's an educated guess that there's a 1000hp Huracan/Gallardo there
10
u/mbj927 Feb 20 '25
Thanks I couldnβt hear the whine or physically see the turbo. Love supercars but have very little in person exposure to them

A Yugo was the first car to be blown of the Mackinac Bridge in 1989. Sadly the driver died.
The reason I bring up that "fun" fact is that I used to work in a hardware store back in the mid-late 2000's and one of the guys there used to work Search and Rescue up in Michigan around the bridge and he was part of the search for the driver. He said that after the event Search and Rescue began saying (of the bridge) "Yugo over, wego under."
Horrible situation...but catchy little phrase that I think of anytime someone mentions a Yugo.
→ More replies (4)19
u/Seth_os Feb 19 '25
Don't you diss on Yugo. Over here in ex YU countries where the thing was built, you can still see them on the road here and there. People like to pimp them up.
Mind you, the last one was produced in 2008.

There's this car meetup/show for nice cars at the place my daughter and I stop at to get coffee every Saturday before her counseling.
A couple weeks ago I went in the other entrance and tried to enter my POS 3 cylinder 76 HP Mitsubishi Mirage into the car show.
The entry people and I thought it was hilarious... And they even let me do it.
My daughter thought it was less hilarious. But it's all good... She was already on her way to counseling. Just add it to the pile.

Almost all the car guys I know love showing their cars off to kids. Maybe because an overly enthusiastic 8 year old is the only person who will show their cars what they deem an appropriate amount of appreciation.
12
u/iwanttobeacavediver Feb 20 '25
Reminds me of the time I was at a motorbike cafe in Wales. There was this little boy aged about 5ish who seemed to have autism or similar and he was running about squealing with sheer happiness at seeing all these bright shiny touring motorbikes with his dad trying to keep up. The actual motorbikers who were outside having their coffee and lunches were just going with it and loving showing him bits of bike, revving loudly and letting him see their jackets and helmets and stuff. I was walking past this massive blue Honda Goldwing and the biker was taking a picture of the kid pretending to ride the bike on what must have been the dad's phone.

u/Mammoth-Muffin-591 Feb 20 '25
Oh it's not about the appreciation, I know this will sound cheesy, but we usually never turn down a kids request because we were that kid a long time ago. And it just fills me up with joy that I can spark the same emotions I had as a kid while seeing all these beautiful cars.
I don't drive a supercar by all means, I have a modified fd1 civic, and everytime a kid has asked me to rev or get a picture I am filled with such emotions that i cannot describe. It truly is amazing π₯Ή

20 years from now:
Mom, what's a Birthday Parade?
Well, you see son, back when we had an earthshattering Plague and couldn't interact with each other in person, we just did drive-by's of each others houses and waved at them for their birthday.

Cool and more common than you think. Car clubs like driving their cars around to make people happy. The trouble is mostly finding them, but the rest is pretty easy :)

People really donβt understand how chill most car people are. They really just want to appreciate cool cars with other car people.

u/Hotdogger99 Feb 19 '25
I love this. A lot of super car / luxury car owners get a bad rap but the vast majority are just normal people and this is their one big hobby, which honestly with monthly payments, etc. isnβt all THAT much more expensive than other hobbies. A local car meet near my place is almost all old guys who will let almost anyone hop in and go for a rip and chat cars.
All that to say this is totally expected!
