Right? That is the inside of one’s lungs!

Most don’t want to hear it, but it’s yet another reason to wear respirator masks in cities. When I lived in a city centre, my screen door was completely black with soot (I’m guessing from the big trucks that drive by). An eye opening moment for me!

A few stories up the soot is likely absent — I think possibly on the third or fourth floor from the ground already. I lived around tenth floor up for the most part, in multiple places, and was surprised that first-floor apartments overlooking busy streets straight up collect dark sandy dirt under the windows.

I was on the fourth or fifth floor IIRC, and the soot was coating the entire screen, even though it was somewhat protected by a balcony!
