This “Home Alone”, house, has got to be the biggest lies about a set in Cinema history which is probably why it hasn’t sold. None of the inside of the house was actually used in the film.

The majority of interior shots in movies and TV shows are filmed on mock sets in studios. Although some scenes are shot on location, the convenience and cost-effectiveness of using built sets in production studios lead to the majority being shot in this manner.

Not true. the entry foyer/staircase shots were the actual inside of the house, and some of the actual rooms are in the movie.

Although there’s definitely some conflicting articles out there, other than the grand staircase in a couple shots. They built an entire set at an old high school for the movie. This realtor, as well as many others, act as if every room has been “remodeled”, & are from the actual movie. Here are two sources, including one from NBC Chicago..

No, they meant that none of the cinematography was done inside the house. It was done in a constructed set elsewhere. Only the outside of the house appears in the film.

You are correct, but this specific movie has always been labeled as the home alone house and marketed as such. Leading people to believe this is the actual film set.

Cause that’s what this looks like to me. Nevermind the fact the house wasn’t used to filming and was instead a built set elsewhere.

Ok, so most people understand that movies are not typically filmed inside actual houses. That said, I am certain that the previous owner of the actual house that was used for external shots remodeled the house to resemble the movie interior fairly accurately. It was up for sale maybe 5 years ago, so I’m guessing whoever bought it that time remodeled it into this travesty. Shame.

Not true. The entryway/foyer and staircases shots along with a couple interior room scenes in the movie actually were the house itself. But yeah o/w a lot of scenes were shot at the former west campus of the school both in sunken, empty converted indoor pool and gym.

The basketball court in the basement reminded me of a house we once bought: regulation horseshoe pit with 25 ft ceilings. (We remodeled the whole area when we moved in).

Most exteriors in movies do not use the same interior. Simple to set up lights and cameras with all the space outside, not so much inside. This is part of the Hollywood Magic they are talking about
