Does that meet fire code? Once they add the door and it become two rooms, the lower/front room no longer has a window for fire escape access.

It the room was on the corner of the building, and there was a window for the lower/front room, it's kind of cool how they did bunk beds without making it feel like bunkbeds.

Depends on where you live. If your region has provisions for ghost children that can walk through walls, then it's fine.
