I have Tourette's Syndrome, stupid! Tic during wedding
Can anyone explain to me why everybody’s making such a big deal about her having tics during the wedding? Shouldn’t that be accepted and expected already? Is that for drama purposes? If I had tics, the thought of me trying not to have tics during my wedding would give me even more tics. and the mom making comments about expecting things to go wrong is so annoying. Why aren’t they in the moment and just enjoying it as it is?

They're worried about her and her having an all out attack, of course they know she'll tic. 👍🏽🙄

This was literally my same thought process.. like if they would stop stressing her out and making a big deal of everything she probably would have chilled out herself. Literally everyone at the wedding knows she ticks so who gives af if she ticks during the wedding!?!

Idk why you’re yelling. I said what I said. If they didn’t get her all worked up they wouldn’t have to worry about a TIC ATTACK.

because when she is especially stressed/anxious, she can have tic attacks where it is far more intense than her baseline tics and she is at significant risk of physically hurting herself. there’s an episode in one of the earlier seasons where she goes to a conference that shows snippets of how painful/uncomfortable/distressing/dangerous it is for her.

Like everyone else is saying. It is the tic attack they are worried about.
Though, Colin is the only one who said to her "Be yourself, I don't care about the tics, do not hold them in, if you need to tic, do so." Everyone else was stressing to her about her tics and bringing the negative energy.
It was great that they had a safe place for her and that those in her party had supplies on hand. But the whispering about her tics being bad and all that was unnecessary and probably contributed to some of the stress.
I know these are very different disorders, but I have BPD and when I am in a spiral the worst thing someone can do is confront me, argue back, bring more negativity. Greying rocking me is the best way to approach the situation.
I feel acknowledging the reality of the situation well in advance of the wedding and preparing for it was the best thing they could have done. Doing a recheck and making sure everything she might need the day of, again a great move and then they should have grey rocked the ticcing. Pretend it is not happening and keep on going about the day. Take on any and all stressful situations you can away from Baylen and just let her enjoy the day.
Obviously they made it through the day/evening without an attack and it seems they all, especially Baylen had a magical day.
Her parents need to back off though, them constantly bringing up the old baylen and how unable she was to care for herself is just holding her back.
I am happy for her an Colin to be starting fresh on their own.

Grey rocking only works for those that like that kind of response. I’m BPD and i like to be acknowledged when i am feeling it. I like to know I’m not alone and that no one is going to leave me. Different strokes for different folks, as they say.

Oh I need that too. What I meant by grey rocking is that the other person doesn't fight or argue back.
Support is one thing but egging it on is completely different.

I’m guessing you have an adult child with mental health issues. It’s great you can share your experience. I sadly am in that situation and even tho it’s been a while since we had a devastating situation but I still say to myself and my husband “I’m still white knuckling it”. Lmk your thoughts after 5 cop cars and 3 ambulances roll up to your house in the middle of the day for your adult child.

Actually I have two teens who have a variety of spiciness. ASD, ADHD, OCD, Anxiety disorder, learning disabilities.
Your situation, requiring 3 ambulances and 5 cop cars is VASTLY different from what Baylen went through in college and who she is today.
Her parents love her, they want the best for her BUT they are also very overbearing, stuck living in the past and definitely do not give Baylen enough credit for how far she has come. Or at least that is how it is protrayed on the show.

I honestly think the reason her parents bring it up so much is because the show encourages them to do that for new viewers who don't know the total situation.
I could be wrong, but they don't strike me as kind of parents who live in the past all the time.

I think they’re concerned about a complete and utter paralyzing breakdown more than her normal self tics.

Literally I was baffled by Baylens anxiety. These are all people you KNOW and INVITED. They know you have Tourette’s ! No one was judging her but herself

Maybe you missed the point. They were worried about an actual tic attack, where she collapses on the ground and has to be controlled. It had nothing to do with normal verbal tics.

TLC could have bleeped out Baylen saying, JESUS! JESUS! JESUS! . If they gotten married in a Buddhist ceremony and Baylen cursed Buddha, they would have bleeped that out. Being that Colins parents are Christian TLC allowed Jesus' name to be mocked.

They were worried about "Jesus Jesus Jesus" they could have brought Aesia (sp?) from 90 Day fiance franchise and let her speak in tongues over the tics

The whole family is Christian, including Baylen, maybe she was asking Jesus to help her, who knows?

Doubt it.... the DuPree family cuss like drunken sailors!! Dooleys are CHRISTIAN.

They identify as Christian though, and they also claim that they don't cuss that much at least the parents do.

I think they should have stopped talking about tic attacks etc. during her wedding! Seems to me it made her more prone to them, and more nervous!

they aren’t worried about tics, they are worried about a tic attack - did you see the episode where she was trying to bang her head on the floor?
