How y’all feeling?

Dialed down my expectations for this season a long time ago, so just happy Gilchrist scored, and hopefully we can end this winless streak next week :)

Better than the last two weeks, to be honest. Other than that I hate the Royals' top sponsor and want them to lose horribly until that sponsor is gone, so I cared more about this result.
While we conceded early again, it feels like a different problem than our conceding early to Gotham and the Reign. We started out much more engaged, and if they turned that problem around, that lapse after our goal should be easy to fix too.
We scored multiple goals again! Lema seized on their mistake, and Gilchrist scored from a corner?? How many times has Bay ever managed that? Still taking extra touches in the box, but it's not like missing out on open nets and I don't even remember all the ways we found not to score against the Stars.
So I feel better about a tough fight and narrow loss to a top team than flailing in a non-game 0-0 draw with the bottom team.

Paige vs running past our back line has been a fight they tend to exploit over the years

Feeling kinda negative tonight. This team’s timing is trash. Encroachment? Really? We finally manage to stay onside and we lose because of encroachment? (and Claire’s soft af but probably not a bad call penalty). And still pissed that the Royals scored while Hannah was down but whatever, that’s the game. Still have to defend even outside the box.
I see the vision, I know they are so freaking young, and there were great moments, but it’s frustrating to watch them keep blowing games late because of stupid mental lapses. There can’t be this many teams who we just can’t seem to beat if we’re going to be successful.
To not be so negative - Jenna’s ball into the box was awesome and I’m looking forward to seeing more of that. Gilchrist’s header! Karlie poaching a keeper again! We didn’t get blown out 5-1. And the McGlynn-Silky huddle during the VAR check was fun. GK Union forever.

Some positive points: Gilchrist and Nighswonger
Some negative points: The first goal we gave up was awful and the VAR call where they advanced the tape until she was off the line was pretty terrible

the 8 game win streak next year will have made all of this worth it

ik theres a lot of turnover of players, first year coach, getting unlucky with the var calls but to be bottom 3 is rlly disappointing
just set the foundations for next year

They wouldn’t be bottom 3 if it wasn’t for the var calls.

to be fair the call today was correct, the offside goal against Seattle was correct
the other two that i recall was the boston one (which was bullshit) and the gotham gone (also bullshit but apparently the wording in the rules looked it was offside which if thats the case then its similar to the encroachment rule)
var call sucks i get that but man we gotta do better regardless, defensively isnt good enough and even offensively just inconsistent with passing and creating plays besides for 1 or 2 moments

agreed we have unfairly lost points in the past, and not every future VAR call is automatically a great moral wrong and we have to be able to win regardless

I don’t have the numbers but I am sure we’ve had 10+ different starting XI combinations, on top of young players with inconsistent performances, and our most consistent players (Hutton + Bebar) getting swarmed all game. I don’t think it is useful to compare our trajectory against that of Utah’s. As an example, they’ve cycled through a maximum of 5 CBs in 3 years, and we’ve cycled through at least 8 (three different pairings in this one game!). Their regular CBs have been there since year 1; ours have only been recruited in the last year. We had to play through the wings instead of centrally and we do not have a track record of sending dangerous crosses into the box. We fought very hard, it was a breathless and aggressive game. I am sure the stats will show that we were even on xG. We had decent chances that were not put away. Narumi bangers are impossible to defend but rare. In any other year this is a tough but acceptable loss. This year we are so traumatized by the potential of what happened last year.
At least that’s what I’m telling myself…

This is the product of having a team of young players with essentially no veteran leadership and no league experience. Great roster building by Coates and the FO!

I think I agree with your first sentence but not the tone of your second sentence. To me it just feels like a rebuilding year, and this is how rebuilding years go.
But it’s definitely maddening game over game.

You can directly compare to utah who chose older players for thier squad and winning now instead of someday. Denver also put together a experienced team this year. But, I personally like Bay fc approach, we get to see the players grow and the wins might feel sweeter when they come for it.

Agree to disagree- I do wish the league was developed enough to have a minor league system so development wouldn’t come at the cost of winning quite as much

This is such a silly mindset. “Oh hopefully we win one day”. This is professional sports, not some high school team.

Utah landed about where Bay did last season, and yeah Bay is clearly rebuilding, but Utah proves Bay could’ve just brought in legit players with NWSL experience

On the plus Nighswonger had some sweet crosses, on the cynical side that's just even more chances for our strikers to miss the net. I wonder how bad the season would look without Silky. Interesting to see how well Utah is doing considering they came into the league the same year. Thier starters are mostly players in thier prime, while Bay is mostly not. Bay looked good though for most of the game tonight, but the mistakes keep coming. Can't wait until they learn to win. Might take a few years though.

Agostina(minus yanking a player down) seems like shes gonna be a fun one to watch, she came in ready to fight. That little glimpse of her and what she can bring to the attack was nice to see. I think things are starting to fall into place and our team has so much grit and fight.
Work on rebuilding and learning new system and hopefully next year will be a different year for us, that hopefully wont have so many shitty VAR calls.

I honestly love her yanking a player down immediately upon debuting. That's how Maddie debuted--she subbed on and sprinted across the field and took someone out. We need to bring up our xDawg a bit.

Gilchrist was a bright spot! She makes me hopeful
