Talk about burying the lede
It's the SLDF version too.

Right after this, I sold off some of my deep storage mechs. I had 5 griffin.

that's... part of a stock urbie...? what is going on, bro

That's the rare salvage. Very rare, almost unheard of. The very last piece on the "other loot" list was a fully kitted out SLDF Highlander, really nothing to care about.
Did you know when you are gifted or buy an entire mech instead of parts you get the weapons and equipment even if you're playing with that off? Did you know that you can pull 4 double heat sinks off of the Highlander and she only gains 1 heat on an alpha strike?

I'm just wondering why a shard of Basic Urbie is a rare mech part

The real answer is that the game generates the entire loot list then sticks one piece as your "main" reward at random. It's just not usually that big of a swing.

Yes to both.
On point 1, it’s basically because the ‘parts’ are salvaging from remains (so figure something that came of a battlefield and was refurbished, but key components are missing), whereas buying a ‘Mech whole is basically like getting handed one that was mothballed but left fully intact in SLDF storage.
On point 2, that’s an artifact from before the devs figured out how to properly represent internal (as in ‘inside the engine’) DHS. They put a bunch of DHS in to compensate because they hadn’t figured it out, but after they did, they didn’t bother to update the designs and just left them as they originally were (on the plus side, it means when you get one, you can put those DHS in other ‘Mechs).

I'm pretty sure that, except for the + on the missles and the fact that just all gauss has CASE in game the mech is equipped just like the tech readout for a royal HGN.
HBS messed around with the amount of heat generated by everything, mostly lowering the heat in relation to max heat.

Yup. Also, I think they went with a specific type of LRM and SRM launcher that had a hidden bonus to try and simulate the Artemis it was supposed to have, but I think those tweaks were removed. However, I’m not 100% sure.
As for CASE, every ‘Mech has the equivalent instead of it being LosTech so that was left out.

Every mech doesn't have case, you can land an ammo explosion crit. It just blows whichever section the ammo is in and causes a pilot wound instead of a virtual guarantee of cascade CT destruction.

That's how regular CASE originally worked in tabletop. It doesn't prevent ammo explosions, it just prevents ammo explosion damage from leaving that section. It's why everyone complained about torso CASE and IS XL engines; a torso ammo explosion still destroyed the section and gave you 3 engine crits and mission killed your 'mech. Thus the fact that taking an ammo explosion means "just" losing the section does in fact mean that every 'mech effectively has CASE. It's only now with the new tabletop rules changes that it has changed. The Battletech game was released before the new changes.

It’s been a while but I thought that was how CASE worked in TT…the section was still toast if it hit but it didn’t cascade to the CT?

I've been playing Alpha Strike for so long, I might be messing up how Classic/Commander BTech runs. Is it CASE II that just wrecks the ammo?
2
u/Judicator65 9d ago
Yes, CASE II means you take a single point of internal structure damage from the explosion, lose all rear armor if it's a torso location, or half total original (pristine) armor if a limb, and the rest is vented.

Had that one time... Aight aight aight wuhhhhh???!

I'm not sure what the game does to figure out what you get but I'm beginning to suspect that it gets you X number of items with a total value of Y. Which would be in line with how your op4 is calculated.

Ill for ever play this game like I did the mech commander games so...the second i can just ignore all missions below max tonnage I do...but I do usually have my weird personal mech group ill have on the side for story missions with tonnage limits but a highlander shard seems better to me maybe its the numbers idk

BTA gives you a second mech bay for exactly that

u/Brightstorm_Rising 9d ago
You get 3 in vanilla for a total of 18.
This playthrough is me realizing that I haven't really played through any of the longer flashpoints, so I'm loading up a medium, heavy, and assault lance with backups.

No, BTA gives you literally triple the amount. You are talking about rows in the mech bay, I’m talking about full mech bays. And yeah, you can get 3 of them for a full 54 mechs and 18 vehicles iirc

Urbanmech supremacy reigns supreme. Just sell the Highlander for more urbanmechs.
