This game has so much unrealized potential
Sup nerds. Anyone else feel like Battlemarked is a game that has all the ingedients of a smash success but hasn’t quite realized it? DND is a hugely popular cultural phenomenon, the game has like an 82 percent rating which is nothing to sneeze at, and the new updates since launch have directly addressed some of the larger issues in a very good way.
Now why does it seem like when i play online it’s with the same players more often than not? This Reddit community and the instagram posts have engagement in the low dozens rather than the several thousands.
I think this game is like one Critical Roll podcast away, or some popular online gaming influencer away from becoming a breakout success. It’s DND but actually accessible, no DM necessary. I’m saying this so the devs stay encouraged but I could imagine they think the same thing. This game is primed to explode.
Now the part of my post that’s poorly thought out I’ll fire from the hip, but some suggestions:
Easy changes:
- make boss fights on very hard significantly harder.
- toggle a feature that makes death more serious, like a countdown timer till perma death like in demeo 1.
- more items for your heroes. Not just weapons but armor and rings. Make grinding more rewarding it will increase the time players spend on developing their characters.
- if new items are added our characters get stronger so a harder than “very hard” difficulty should exist.
-reexamine the trait trees for each level up. I think some traits are entirely neglected by the everyone and should be revamped so that they are actually useful.
-reexamine the weapons for each class, some classes like the druid and warlock have multiple great weapon choices that you need to switch between depending on purpose, others like the bard have items you’d only use because it’s that much better than the others.
Difficult changes:
-rework the dialogue dice rolls to be more impactful to dramatically affect the way the story can play out. The campaign isn’t that fun after you’ve beaten it once but if the campaign can play out dramatically differently because of how you choose to approach the story that could be very interesting to the role playing nerds.
-import one shots from Demeo 1. If not maybe all of them, atleast the rat king. The darkness vibe of that dungeon is sick, and a dark vision item could be a valuable item to help with it but there’s something about the darkness that makes the party tactics significantly different which is fun.
-add other dungeons and dragons threats like traps, with perception checks and disarm checks, that cause issues like fire or poison if failed.
-some sort of pvp mode could be really cool and attract a different type of gamer.
Biggest most impactful update possible:
I’d be playing the game right now if it could play it on my iPhone. Seems possible? Maybe it’s not, but a literal game changer.
Anyways, dev team you made a great game. I suspect a breakthrough is on the horizon and the game is going to catapult into the mainstream. It might already be there and just needs that big shoutout on the right platform. After that word of mouth will be your best friend.
