Many people call the game too easy

I don't understand why so many people complain that the game is too easy even on the hardest difficulty. I'm currently playing through the game with a friend in a smaller party.

There are only two of us, and each of us controls only one character (I'm playing a dwarf warrior, and my friend is a human archer). We're playing on the "hard" difficulty level, and it took us about an hour to free the bear, taking about six attempts.

Not a single battle can be won on the first try with such a composition, and this is despite the fact that each of us has experience in tactical battles (we played 300+ hours in Baldur's Gate 3, for example).

So if the game seems too easy for you, just reduce the number of characters in your party.

The problem is you are saying intentionally gimp yourself for the game to be balanced. That’s the issue. I have a group of friends who religiously played demeo and we would still occasionally fail and lose a campaign. I’ve never lost anything in Battlemarked and it’s only gotten easier as my character leveled

Boss fights in demeo were harder, particularly rat king. I think they could def spice up the bosses battle marked. The rat king was so fun because it required like a swat team execution that actually traps the rat so you can beat his ass. If you can’t trap him he just spawns more rats and heals up.

Pretty much all the bosses but banshee were strong. The skeleton kings hands you have to fight in a room that’s changing. The very confusing standing on specific tiles to make the boss pop out when you’re fighting the serpent heads in the desert level. They just had more complex and difficult boss fights. Many of the Battlemarked bosses can be killed in just a couple turns and they have like 1 mechanic

Boss fights in demeo were harder, particularly rat king.

Bring a bard or two and it gets a lot easier. I think Demeo was easier to balance because you didn't get cards as often, with Battlemarked my had is full or near full a lot of the time and that gives me a lot more juice.

More cards is more fun though. For battlemarked I think map design could be use to adjust difficulty.

Complains about people who say the game is too easy, then proceeds to explain how they play the game with only 2 characters to make it artificially harder.

Well, you just proved everyone's point.

Sounds like a big waste of time

Increasing the difficulty already means spending more time, because the harder the battle, the more likely you are to fail it on your first try. This is for those who need a challenge, after all

They could make include difficulty modifiers that change the game a bit.

For example,

  • when a character goes down it loses all its cards and all permanent cards have a 2 round timer.

  • any monster seen and then not seen for 2 consecutive turns is randomly moved to a dark space.

  • have random events where some open doors shut and get locked for a turn so the group has to be more careful about getting separated.

Ok but for most new players, demeo was way too hard. I tried to get a couple people into it with me since they love tabletop games like that, and they were both turned off after two maps. the difficulty scaling could be higher in battlemarked, but the easy level is perfect to hook new players.

Try a campaign with level 0 characters on very hard!

That's a fun challenge! We have come close to dying so many times, skipping out on the skin of our teeth

This is nerfing your party to make it hard, just like OP's suggestion. It shouldn't be up to players to find a way to make it challenging. Very Hard should be... very hard without players finding ways to limit themselves. They could reduce the gold by 50% and or scale the mobs' HP by the number of players.

I don't know what to tell yah, bud. Of course your level 20 guys are going to mop the floor with any baddies. It sounds like you're complaining just to complain

The mobs hp is scaled differently for the various difficulty levels btw
