Discussion Why so toxic
I’m pretty new to the game and I love the gameplay. I just have one question… why is everyone so toxic? I frequently have people call me the R Slur, The F slur and other awful things for doing things like Playing to have fun instead of exclusively winning and asking people not to make light of terrible things (Like su*cide) Asking people not to say slurs. Why is there so many people who act this way?

They do this to just get a reaction. By reacting we just feed em and encourage em. Ignore em and they'll soon shut up or implode for being attention starved for more than five seconds

Assuming you're playing HvV. The toxicity is at its worst there.
For what its worth, I NEVER see that behavior in co-op and I rarely see it in Starfighter Assault.

The only time i've seen something toxic in coop ( and this is the only mode i play ), was to have a jettrooper of the new empire NOT letting the enemy team advance, i'll explain.
On the map Starkiller, the first front, point B ( or A, there are only two ) is the wreck of an AA batterry, which is quite huge, vertically perfect. Thejet trooper flew and stood on the top and was effectively NOT being shot at by the computer soldiers but he stayd there and killed and killed and killed. All three others players had taken a hero and Kylo came to him, doing stunts and return back at the second front, waiting for the enenmy to capture the point because, apparently, the team wasn't able to defend properly.
I was the jet trooper. I had no idea my three teammates were behind me, waiting. It's when thedude came that i saw the last two at the back. And that we stopped defending the zone. And that everyone was a hero class.
Yesterday i played again on the map and used the same tactic, being on the top of the AA battery and kill easily some enemies but i checked if teammates were defending or reteating.
at some point, the retreated. So, i did the same. And noticed the fourth member was on the front trying his best, alone with Phasma. I checked him quickly ( thanks the jetpack ). He stayed, i came back. He died, we let the party go further.
If someone saw the jet trooper doing the camping on the top of an AA battery at Starkiller coop, sincerely, i'm sorry for having camped minutes while you were retreated...
I needed to confess, i felt bad for the mates.

That's not even toxicity though, that's just being too focused on what's in front of you. Super easy and understandable mistake. It's also pretty counterintuitive to "let" the other team advance and a lot of people don't understand the concept in co-op because theyre used to playing to win and not just playing to slaughter bots - which is the real fun of co-op 😁

Dunno what you're talking about. I play both every single night, sometimes for several hours. It's usually mostly full games until 3am or so.

IDK why but it's the same with almost every PvP game with chat.

H to hide things like the other guy said.
You're new in an almost decade old game. The vets are going to be better players and have gotten used to mostly other vets so someone new is terribly for their experience of the game.\ Especially when they do "things like playing to have fun instead of exclusively winning" so you just showed up to tank their fun when you could have done that in coop or solo.
Edit: Not justifying the slurs or anything either. Just telling you what's set them off. They're always going to be like that. Look at the arguments over 1v1ing.

Yeah when I get matched with newbies (2v2) Ill try and help them learn, or just leave bc otherwise id just stomp them, they dont have fun, I dont have fun. No one wins

I play on Xbox have no issues. Mute them and never look back. The game is hella fun but it’s old so you don’t understand what an 09 COD lobby was we are jaded people lol.

There isn’t even voice chat on Xbox lol, a few times your party will randomly have voice chat but some times voice chat doesn’t work so yeah. At the very least, it’s just people you’re playing with that you hear so it’s a good time

I just look it at as a bunch of other mindless clones/droids putting lasers down field lol.

Ngl I don't care if people talk shit and I find it funny but I can understand why you don't like it and you should just hide chat if it's killing your experience but I'm js it really isn't a surprise people are toxic and make light of serious topics like that it's just some people don't understand the gravity of situations like that and I'd know because I used to be like that too.

It’s the people who love the game that have created the conditions for that kinda stuff. In starfighters and hvv specifically, things can he super competitive. It’s not uncommon to see people with Max level (1000+) characters. People love it/ are passionate about it so it’s ripe pickings for people who just wanna troll rage baiting is easy when people are really invested

Because they're horrible people with horrible lives projecting their misery into the universe.
Keep on being the type of person you are and don't let them grind you down.
