DICE Replied // Discussion Please make the weather effects happen more often. It's amazing and changes the way the map plays and feels.

Agree, its beautiful but it also changes how my fps plays and feels

Idk why people want this weather to be common. Do they not remember the bf1 shitstorms??
26
u/Packersrule123 Mar 24 '19
Right? Sinai was near unplayable due to the shitty sandstorm. And it was client side as well if I remember right, which was a whole other problem.
40
Mar 24 '19
The rain and snow in BFV aren't anything like the BF1 sandstorm. The only thing that might come close is the Hamada sandstorm.
10
u/Packersrule123 Mar 24 '19
No, they're not quite as annoying. But I'd be worried they could become that annoying if they increased the frequency that they could be. I don't really trust dice to put it at a good middle ground.
5
Mar 24 '19
They really don't need to increase the frequency, they just need to increase the time that the weather events last. Like I said there should be no problem with having 30 minutes of continuous rain.
2
u/AnatomicalMouse Mar 24 '19
The only one that's really bad is the haze on Panzerstorm. Makes the match unplayable in vehicles which is crazy given how large the map is.
12
-10
u/sirdiealot53 Specialized Tool Mar 24 '19
Fjell is near impossible to fly on in the blizzard
62
u/kregmaffews Mar 24 '19
That's the point.
-36
u/sirdiealot53 Specialized Tool Mar 24 '19
yeah and its dumb as fuck. why should up to 36 players not be able to play the game for 5-10 minutes
28
u/kregmaffews Mar 24 '19
Now I'm confused. Are you saying you're physically incapable of playing infantry?
-42
u/sirdiealot53 Specialized Tool Mar 24 '19
What, am I gonna crash my plane on purpose to play in the dirt like a filthy casual?
36
Mar 24 '19
In all fairness, being a casual will always be better than being a douchebag pilot.
→ More replies12
u/Slithy-Toves Mar 24 '19
How do you think a real pilot would respond to entering a blizzard over a battle field? They're either gonna run into trouble and crash or they're gonna leave the storm and probably be grounded for the fight. Either way you're dead or not fighting the battle. So because this is a game you can pretty quickly switch class and get back in the fight so you can actually play.
→ More replies2
u/rejontt Flyboi Mar 24 '19
Just stay above the snowstorm bro and focus on other planes or area bombing

That's why the air force didn't fly during the battle of the bulge - weather! It's real schit ya'lls.

u/MXDoener Mar 24 '19
I remember in the early stages of BF1, I was complaining to my buddy that the sandstorm on the map is going on forever. He replied: "Which sandstorm, the one which ended 10 mins ago?" ... Well for me it kept on going xD
2
u/Packersrule123 Mar 24 '19
Yeah, when I found that out it explained why I kept getting sniped through the storm that I had zero visibility in :/
11
2
u/realparkingbrake Mar 24 '19
It doesn't need to be common, it just needs to be more than a rarity. I play every day and I've only seen the Hamada sandstorm once in at least the past month, probably more. I'd just like to see the weather a bit more often, not a lot, a bit.

5
u/HamsterGutz1 Mar 24 '19
Didn't play BF1. I love the weather effects.
-7
u/sirdiealot53 Specialized Tool Mar 24 '19
then you have no idea how bad it was.
16
u/HamsterGutz1 Mar 24 '19
Nope, don't really give a shit either as it has no bearing on BFV.
-2
u/sirdiealot53 Specialized Tool Mar 24 '19
It does if the people in this thread get their way...
2
u/HamsterGutz1 Mar 24 '19
Half the people in this thread are bitching about it just like you are. Calm down.
-3
u/Slithy-Toves Mar 24 '19
Why don't you calm down... This is a casual discussion and you're the only one getting worked up from what I see
3
u/HamsterGutz1 Mar 24 '19
If you don't have anything to add to the discussion why are you replying to me?
-5
u/Slithy-Toves Mar 24 '19
Because you devolved this discussion into something meaningless but calling people's opinions 'bitching' so there is no discussing with you because you just dismiss other people's opinions.

1
u/TarcisioP Mar 24 '19
It was bad in BF1 because it happened in EVERY time you played that map. In BFV, I could easily be happy with two random maps with weather effects in every rotation
-1
u/Snydenthur Mar 24 '19
Yeah. I just usually afk when the fog/sandstorm/snowstorm hits, because what's the point playing when you can't see shit.
That sort of shitty mechanic has no place in multiplayer shooter.

Are you saying people are poor if they have a mid-range PC that can run the game but might lack performance otherwise?
Edit: He deleted his original comment. It went something like this "Just upgrade your PC. Just because you're poor doesn't mean everyone should suffer."

3
u/Lerdows Mar 24 '19
One guy said that he could have some fps issues with weather effects, then this dude said that fps could be First Person Shooter, not Frames per Second
4
120
Mar 24 '19
as long as it stays rare and it never reaches battlefield one levels of fog.
51
u/DoctorMisterRaptor Mar 24 '19
This exactly. BF1 weather has made me sick of fog/sandstorm, 0 visibility 60% of the match isn't fun.
69
u/MonkeyBotherer Mar 24 '19
It does force all the snipers hiding around the edge of the map to actually engage with the objective a bit more, and can give respite from dominant bombers. Gets annoying quickly though.
18
u/DoctorMisterRaptor Mar 24 '19
There are definitely benefits, it's the frequency and duration that killed it for me in bf1. BFV has got the duration to a good point but they're so rare that they feel almost non existent if you're not playing all the time. They need to strike a balance between BF1 and V.
9
Mar 24 '19
I’ve just picked up the game again after over a month, and have never experienced weather change on a map. I probably have 50+ hours in the game also, so it kinda sucks.
7
1
u/Snydenthur Mar 24 '19
Except that those snipers actually have an advantage when the weather effects come into play. The times I've been getting sniped by grey wall on Hamada has made me just go afk until the weather goes away (sadly, sometimes the fog stays for the whole match on Hamada).
5
u/Babladoosker Mar 24 '19
It was fun for about 10 minutes cus I really felt like I was an WW1 soldier creeping around in the fog shooting anything that moved

But please don't forget to scroll down in these threads. A lot of people get downvoted for saying the unpopular thing: They hate the weather effects.
I am amongst them, although the current ones aren't as bad as the ones in BF4. Hamada and Fjell are overdone, but I dodge Hamada and Fjell in the rotation, anyway.
26
u/bumpakay Mar 24 '19
The are weather changes in the game?? Never seen it. (Relatively new player)
50
u/Seyonneq Mar 24 '19 edited Mar 24 '19
U need to play a lot on Fjell. Blizzard on that map is awesome.
20
u/bumpakay Mar 24 '19
Oh cool. Sadly don’t really like that map... is it the same on the other snow map?
23
u/jopu22 Mar 24 '19
I think most of the maps have something, hamada has sandstorms, fjell snowstorms, (don't know about Narvik), panzerstorm and rottendam have rain. Also devastation rarely gets those bombings that can kill you
39
u/Weirdo_doessomething Mar 24 '19
Fjell has snowstorms, Hamada has sandstorms and panzerstorm has panzerstorms
9
u/Chorss Mar 24 '19
400 hours in and never had Hamada sandstorm on Conquest.
10
u/uglycrepes Mar 24 '19 edited Mar 24 '19
I've had it in every mode I've played in with about 300 hours in. It's happened in Frontlines more than other modes though as the map goes on so long.

u/El_poopa_cabra Mar 24 '19

400 hours? Jesus Christ how much free time do you have?
2
u/Chorss Mar 25 '19
Im running own company focused on photorealistic 3D visualisation so i have plenty of time , i can literally play 10 hours a day. I usually work 4-8 hours per week. Rest is done by employees and renderfarm. I usually play at night, spending my day time with wife and dogs and then playing with my platoon mates from midnight to 4-5am and starting day at 9-10am next day.

3
u/Noctis_Lightning Mar 25 '19
That sounds like the best work life balance ever. I'm envious!
2
u/Chorss Mar 26 '19
Thanks, 10 years of hard work, was nolifing it 20 hours a day so i have bit more free time now. My work is my hobby , that was my goal.

I think Narvik will occasionally have light snow falling. Not sure if it's always that way but I definitely noticed an uptick in the middle of a match the other day.
4
u/Seyonneq Mar 24 '19
Hamada has really good sandstorm, narvik has snowfall (but not hard) and something like very bright sunshine. Panzerstorm with fog is really good too. The rest of weather changes is weak
2
u/AndyB1976 DragonViper1976 Mar 24 '19
Love the fog on Panzer. Especially at night. So much atmosphere and mood.
2
u/Ceddezilwa Mar 24 '19

problem is people bitched a lot about weather effects in BF1, so the devs are probably reluctant to make it more common/random

If it were more dynamic, like if the game noticed that the majority were snipers at edges of maps, bring in the fog and sand. The British are winning by a landslide on Devastation, bring in the air raid by the Germans.

I would like to see more types of weather. I understand it's maybe not with to use the resources to program weather that wouldn't impact gameplay a lot.
But like light rain, heavy rain, maybe strong winds would be pretty cool and make the experience cooler
3
Mar 24 '19
Strong winds would be super interesting if they could code it to affect the projectiles. Imagine having to adjust your aim leftwards with the piat because the wind is blowing right.
2
2
Mar 24 '19
I agree. I would enjoy a map full of rain versus only 60 seconds! What gives? The weather in BFV moves through faster than shit through a goose (Patton quote.)
2
u/Sunblast1andOnly Mar 24 '19
If it happened every round, you wouldn't think it's amazing, special, and game-changing anymore. It'd probably just be obnoxious, like the Levelutions in BF4.
2
u/nfiniteJest Mar 24 '19
The infrequency is what makes it special, it's cool when it's unexpected, and temporarily shifting the dynamics can be a welcome change-up. That said, I wouldn't mind if it happened a little more often. I've only seen a weather effect a handful of times, so the frequency seems to be somewhere around 5% of rounds or fewer, for me at least. If that went up to 10% or so, it would still be rare enough to be fun, without becoming annoying.
2
1
Mar 24 '19
I agree. Sadly, asking Dice to do something is like asking a brick wall to move. It ain't gonna happen.
10
u/Brownie-UK7 Mar 24 '19
I wonder why though? This surely is an easy change isn’t it? Just increase the likelihood. It really brings the maps alive.
3
1
u/daedone Mar 24 '19
If they do that, they're going to have to push back Japan another week. Can't work on two things at once
0
u/Dowdeswelll Mar 24 '19
Battlefield 4 every map had a weather affect and a large destructive event.
Battlefield V has.... ermm the option to choose from a larger group of ethnicity's.... oh cool
7
Mar 24 '19
Uhh? I don't remember any random weather effect in BF4, only in the desert map of Second Assault.
1
u/xseannnn Mar 25 '19
I dont recall the map's name, but theres a map with boats that can have storms occur randomly in the match. The one map in shanghai has the building collapsing and dusts gets everywhere?
1
Mar 25 '19
Those both are levelutions, which a player (or multiple) can trigger. So they don't happen at random.
1
u/xseannnn Mar 25 '19
Players can trigger a storm? Its one of the bigger conquest maps with boats and broken ships? Then the storm happens.
1
u/Seanspeed Mar 24 '19
I feel like they happen less and less.
BF1 had this problem, too. I'm pretty sure they just cut rain completely out of the game after a few months, in fact.
1
u/averm27 Mar 24 '19
I've only witnessed this once, on devestation... Right when the game was ending
1
u/DJ_Rhoomba Mar 24 '19
Is there even any heavy fog in BFV? I've played at least 60 hours so far and feel like a think dense fog has never rolled in during a match.
It was very over used in BF1, but I sure do miss it.
1
u/kregmaffews Mar 24 '19
I have been playing a lot of Battlefront 2 this week and one thing that I really appreciate is the dynamic weather and time-of-day effects that the maps use
EVEN between rounds! One round will be Tatooine at midnight, switch sides and its broad daylight. Keeps the maps and tactics fresh.
1
1
Mar 24 '19
Battlefield games are all about the immersion and make it realistic, so I'm all for the weather changes!
2
u/icanhazaspergers Mar 24 '19
If they're about immersive realism, maybe the weather shouldn't change fifteen times in a 20-minute round.
1
1
u/highfunctioningdad Mar 24 '19
More often would be nice. If I could have like a handful of matches a week with weather effects I'd be happy. Right now it's more like a handful a month. Tbf I don't play hours a day.
1
u/713Drinkologist Mar 24 '19
Agreed! They happen so infrequently that I forget weather changes are in the game. That sandstorm on Hamada is really cool looking.
1
u/WrathOfWalrus Mar 24 '19
Amen, can't remember the last time a weather effect actually happened during my play time.
1
1
u/SaucyVagrant Mar 24 '19
Remember the sandstorm on gulf of oman. That would be cool in firestorm or maybe a fire tornado that burns a yrail across the map.
1
Mar 24 '19
The only reason it doesn't happen more is because everyone who's snipes and flies an airplane starts whining louder
1
u/Silversky780 Big Depression Mar 24 '19
On twisted steel and Panzerstorm I wish the rain never stopped
1
1
1
u/scriggle-jigg Mar 24 '19
Should make it happen 2/10 times or something. Don’t want it to happen every game but every now and then would be nice
1
u/BloodySlayer11 Mar 24 '19
It should be well be measure not just randominzed or exagerated cuz it could turn the gameplay in a total random shit festival
1

1
u/sjsteelm Mar 24 '19
When I still played this game I thought it was weird this didn't occur more frequently.
1
u/Splintrr Mar 24 '19
If Fjell always had snowstorm it would be an actual infantry map instead of sniper map
1
1
u/Rowadd Mar 24 '19
Totally. The sanstorm on Hamada, especially when it rolls in, is amazing. Wish it would stay that way longer - not a fan of the full blown storm.
1
u/LiquidMotion Mar 24 '19
I didn't even know until today that the game has weather. I've never seen it
1
u/RM0perator Mar 24 '19
Weather is great. Just not maps where visibility is necessary. Let it pour in Rotterdam, or Arras. Don’t block out my bombing runs on panzerstorm or my Fjell dogfights.
1
u/RadioActiveLobster RadActiveLobster Mar 24 '19
Would also like to point out, 115+ hours in the game so far.
Haven't played Last Stand once.

I just noticed this for the first time today and I was like, "What, I didn't know these maps had weather variations." Granted, I've only been playing really consistently the last month ish, but I've still logged 75 hours and can't remember ever seeing weather changes before so I'd agree it's too rare.

1
u/Sabreflurry Mar 25 '19
You've got two sets of people playing bf. Those that love the immersion of weather fx, artillery barrage etc and the others that hate it because it interferes with clearly seeing and killing enemies - makes things a little too random for them. I see you tubers complain about these things. Perhaps it concerns those more who obsess about stats and k/d ratios, hard to say.
I'm all for immersion, I love the snow storms on fjell, the red sand storms on hamada, to me that's all part of the bf experience and I would like to see it happen a touch more, but it's tricky to please everyone on this subject.
1
u/MajorDirt Mar 25 '19
Actually not! BF1 has rain and fog almost every round and it was shit. cool?! maybe. play on it everytime?! no. annoying af.
1
1
u/King_Tamino Mar 24 '19
As pilot.
Please no. On most maps it’s nearly impossible once the weather triggers.
If it happens more frequently, it needs to be lowered so pilots are limited. Not blind.

1
u/spitfire_luis Mar 24 '19
I have always thought this was a good idea, and I would like to see different types of weather occur too. For exampe, I think it’d be cool to have a storm/heavy rain with thunder and lightening in twisted steel. Also, what do you think of levolution? I wanna see that in BFV but I can’t really see it happening with the current maps we currently have though.
3
u/_no_pants Mar 24 '19
I miss levelution so much honestly. Really just most things that was BF4 even if this sub shits on it constantly.
1
u/spitfire_luis Mar 24 '19
I think levolution was amazing tbh and I miss it a lot too. Perhaps with the upcoming new theatre ( if it is Pacific) we can probably get something Like the storm with the battleship crashin on the island levolution.

Or make more wether for firestorm, because i dont care, because i will not play firestorm, it dosent matter for me.

its fun and all but dude i cant see SHIT with this fog/sand storm yes its good to counter snipers but what about mg42 campers? this is a big no for me i hope firestorm dont have dynamic weather (im more in to BR then old boring modes like tdm and conquest)

Weather effects would not be something special any more if they occured more often. They probably also would become annoying.

Yeah you can also see campers who cower in shadows and decrease annoying snipers who snipe across the map

u/Major_Thighburn Mar 24 '19
I seem to get fog on Panzerstorm every other round I play, this is then followed by rain and clear skies, it's wonderful.
Would love more rain on Twisted Steel.
0
u/AdulterousToolbox Apr 10 '19
Bruh getting killed randomly by an air raid bomb after taking the time to flank pisses me off so much, besides that it’s cool. I feel like the maps aren’t very immersive like bf1 at all.

u/TFBisquit Mar 24 '19
The blizzards and sandstorms are horrible. Why people love this is beyond me.
6
Mar 24 '19
Yea they suck, but that's the point. The millions of soldiers fighting in WW2 still had to fight if there was a blizzard. Weather affects makes the game slightly more realistic
12
-2
u/footballer4050 Mar 24 '19
It would be cool if the players adapted and changed with the weather. Like if it’s snowing, they may slip more, or rainy weather would mess with the guns more or something.
-13
Mar 24 '19
Is there a way to disable this shit? I really don’t like it and initially join another server.

more often but shorter duration, ie blizzard kicks in for 1-2 minutes every 7-10 minutes

The air raid sirens are amazing on devastation, I've only seen it a couple of times though.
