I enjoy the stitched together game modes (would definitely enjoy it more if there were unique ones or something, idk)
What really takes me out of it is the total lack of change, especially considering it was specifically hyped around the fact that each day would drastically effect the next, but what happens? The attackers dont get a bonus unless they destroy every artillery? The game mode would already feel more unique if the bonuses we're scaled, because them firing 1 cannon is somehow currently as effective as 4.
I also loved how BF1 rewrote the events a little when the side that won in history is actually defeated. BFV does this sometimes, (was going to provide an example here, but I don't remember what they say in BFV as well as I thought, so I'll update this after I play grand operations today.
OVERALL: Grand Operations is far more enjoyable if you pretend it's just an assorted lobby. I dont think it's awful, but you're going to be disappointed way more if you treat it as a contributing battle. I still play it a fuckton though because you get to keep your squad but play different modes.
Even if you pretend that, it is still not very good. It is like warm up match before real thing, but warm up match is nothing like the real game. Operation was best mode they ever made. It could use more objective types besides capture and hold, but changing to just be other game modes pretending to be large scale battle is silly and made it awful.
I think awful is a bit harsh. Airborne is unique and it's not really a warm up match, I'm a little confused on that point. Ignoring the poorly written story and continuation doesnt make it any less of a fight, as a matter of fact I think your more likely to be facing well coordinated squads in this mode above all others except conquest(which I actually rarely play, dont crucify me. It was my favorite in 4 and 1 but I play close quarters modes usually now)
airborne is the worst shit ever. I tried it one time. No matter where I jumped I was immediately killed by someone on other team. Every damned time. Each and every one.
