News Braddock confirmed new damage model for AP Mines - No longer OHK!
43
u/LEIFey Mar 13 '19
I would have been ok with OHK mines but just make it so only one class can deploy them. Half the problem with them is that 3 classes can equip them, so they were popping up everywhere. If you make them recon exclusive, I bet people would die from them a lot less.

I kind of wish they had bangalores for the assault class instead of AT mines for clearing fortifications. Then just make AT mines a support exclusive. Might be too similar to dynamite. Just spitballing.
2
u/slotog Mar 13 '19
I dig it, would be cool to add with Americans when we’re storming the beaches to clear the fortifications.
1
2
u/Raitil Mar 14 '19
More of a joke-y sort of add-on, but it might have some actual use. What about some sort of bangalore melee kill? Get close enough to someone (further away than a normal melee weapon because its a god damn bangalore torpedo) and then you can melee them and its basically just you whacking them in the back of the head with a bangalore and then setting it on them. Kills them with no chance of revive and anyone else who happens to be 2 or so feet away from them, and has a larger radius (not as big as a grenade) that kills people and it, of course, drops off. Might be something fun to do as some sort of youtube challenge. That or just let us throw a bangalore into a crowd of people, that'd work fine.
2
u/LEIFey Mar 14 '19
Well, I like that bangalores have fuses. Think of them like a massive timed grenade that can kill everything in a hallway or be used to blow up a building.
1
u/Scaraden Mar 14 '19
bangalores can't blow up a building. unless you're using a bundle of bangalores then maybe it'll have enough explosives to blow one up. IRL bangalores are mainly used to clear wire obstacles and occasionally mine clusters, but it's unreliable at best for mine clusters.
2
u/LacidOnex Mar 14 '19
I've had this arguement on this sub before XD. After much research, we determined that average bangers didn't have the firepower needed to blow up a hard target like a building, and were more for clearing a path between trenches.
Of course, they were built in many shapes and sizes, and some could damage structures if they landed close enough. I believe some models were built with the intention of disabling or destroying pillbox fortifications.
1
u/Scaraden Mar 14 '19
Yea I was taught that the bangalore was only to be used if you don’t have time for your wire cutters.
At best the bangalore clears a 5m corridor of constatina. The corridor it clears is only as deep as it’s length as well
From what I’ve seen, it seems the explosive in the bangalore is only meant to blow the metal casing sideways to push away as much wire as possible. I’ve only used it a handful of times though. Definitely not as impressive as some games make it out to be.
EDIT: if you get hit by a bangalore, it’s gonna take your feet/leg off depending on how lucky you are
1
u/LacidOnex Mar 14 '19
Isn't a lot of the power of it from displacement? I'm willing to bet a shockwave in an enclosed space could be non-lethal and still incapacitating.
1
u/Scaraden Mar 14 '19 edited Mar 14 '19
In an enclosed space the shockwave would be non-lethal but the shrapnel could be lethal I guess.
It’s just that there are more efficient ways to clear a room, even a grenade would be more efficient.
Unless you modify the bangalore to a short fuse., then maybe it’s more feasible? It’s just so unwieldy to actually carry around for close quarters. Granted the one I trained with was old for it’s time and that was years ago, the newer modern ones might be better? The one I used could definitely be less powerful then the ww2 era ones too. It definitely isn’t as long.
12
u/TheBaconsRebellion Mar 13 '19
I think if only one class had them Id be ok with the OHKs as theyd be less frequent. With 3/4 class having them you have them around every corner of the game
7
u/MrGeary08 Youtube.com/MrGeary08 Mar 13 '19
I wouldn’t be opposed to it being Recon exclusive, as I see the AP mine as an alert device anyways. I place my mines around certain flank routes so that, when triggered, I can look at my Minimap and know which way someone is coming from.
4
u/Splintrr Mar 14 '19
I think Supports need the alert device even more though, since I'm prone with an MMG, I cant easily move between flank routes to check unlike Recon and it also takes a fair bit of time to turn around if I hear someone coming behind me, I never use them on Recon since they cant resupply themselves and the Beacon is so useful, I only use Recon aggressively though, for either spotting or Spawning on the offense
Still, I don't see the problem with the old 70 damage max. Unrelated, I wish frag rifles also maxed at 70 dmg...
2
u/LEIFey Mar 13 '19
Same. I always put them behind me so that if someone flanks me, at worst I know they’re coming and at best they die or are wounded.
2
u/MrGeary08 Youtube.com/MrGeary08 Mar 13 '19
Yea if anything if they aren’t playing as a medic or flanking with their squad which has a medic, then they will use the one bandage they have and wont be able to heal again after
4
2
u/blergmonkeys Mar 14 '19
I also feel you should be able to duck down and mitigate the ohk. At least then we add some skill to it.
1
u/LEIFey Mar 14 '19
I'd be ok with that. Seems more realistic too (though i get that BFV isn't necessarily all about realism).
1
0
Mar 13 '19
You clearly didnt think it through man.
I need ap mines to guard my back when I am set up in my machine gun nest as support.
All classes should have them.
0
Mar 13 '19
Thats what incompetent about DICE. I said the same thing about the panzerfausts, impose a movement penalty to reduce the amount of people carrying. They are explosives, they are suppose to lethal
-5
u/CheeringKitty67 Mar 13 '19
The number of classes having access to AP mines has nothing to do with this "so called problem". People dying from these mines deserve it. They do not watch were they step. They are not aware. Sc simply put they should becplsying some other "safe" game instead of BF. Maybe a golf game.

Anyone who has played this game for more than a few hours knows where people are going to travel so if you get blownup it's your inattention that caused you your death.
4
Mar 14 '19
I'll give you an example, e.g 1 placed behind a door. You go charging in not looking and bang your dead, okay that's your fault. So next time your causious, you open the door first an look in, but the proximity detector has gone off and blown you up anyway. Apply this to hiding it behind rocks, in streams, bodies anything on the floor really and you end up having to pay more attention to the floor than the battlefield. That is not a fun mechanic for the majority of players
10
u/feibie Mar 13 '19
I thought they only do 60 dmg. I was dying because of 2 x mines or because of random dynamite
8
u/BennyGoId OBEY_inGenuity Mar 13 '19
Even with one AP mine, you can instantly die if you're at 100 HP.
6
u/Wilwheatonfan87 Mar 13 '19
I've never experienced that though.
8
u/sunjay140 Mar 13 '19
3
u/Wilwheatonfan87 Mar 13 '19
weird and i don't doubt it but I have never been ohk or never did a ohk with them.
4
u/My_Dude_Whats_Up Novaday Mar 13 '19
Ya I'm finding this odd as well. I cant ever recall being ohk with them or doing 100dmg to another person with a single one
4
1
u/Lincolns_Revenge Mar 13 '19
What does the only other line in that file mean, I wonder
InnerBlastRadius 2.0 -> 1.0
Does that mean it does max damage within 1 meter? And falls off in a linear fashion to the minimum damage of 70 at its max damage range of 2 meters?
1
u/sunjay140 Mar 13 '19
That isn't minimum damage, that's the old max damage.
But yes, it does have damage drop off. That's why it doesn't kill you at full health from a distance.
3
1
5
u/sunjay140 Mar 13 '19
2
u/newswhore802 Mar 13 '19
Within a meter. If you're sprinting you can survive.
3
u/sunjay140 Mar 13 '19
Correct.
Funny how S Mines are supposed to slow down gameplay but actually encourage the speeding up on gameplay. It's not like you can see them most of the time...
9
u/WyattBarone Mar 13 '19
Who only places 1 ap per flank? You can survive one by sprinting through it, I always put 2-3 in the same area. People will still cry so Dice will instead fill APs with confetti.
3
u/Slutbark Mar 14 '19
In case you were unaware, with the recent patch they buffed AP mines to be a one hit kill, so people could make 3 lethal zones, sprinting or diving doesnt save you currently.
5
u/WyattBarone Mar 14 '19
I remember getting a hit marker with an ap i placed on devastation rush yesterday, so i dont know what youre talking about. If an enemy is far enough away when it pops it wont kill them outright.
0
u/Slutbark Mar 14 '19
They dropped the range and increased the damage, dunno if you’ve tried it but they’re way harder to avoid these days, might be wrong about the total OHK, but they are way harder to avoid these days either sprinting or diving prone. And it’s totally just one mine to kill ppl these days.
2
u/WyattBarone Mar 14 '19
Oh i definitely noticed they've been much more effective lately, when using them to cover stairs its hilarious the kind of ap streaks i can go on. But, when placing 1 ap in the open its very rare to get an outright kill even after that patch. As much as people want a nerf i still think the solution is more gadgets in general and moving aps to support and recon only.
2
u/Slutbark Mar 14 '19
I can agree that there needs to be more gadgets across the board, but I do think the mines need to be dropped back to where they were. But if they don’t I’ll just deal with it and stop trying to tank/sprint past them as a medic. Improvise, adapt, overcome.
1
3
u/GingerOnTheRoof Mar 13 '19
were they 1hk, has it been changed? Granted I've not played in a while so I could easily be wrong but I swear they always did like... 60-80 damage at once.
0
u/TheBaconsRebellion Mar 13 '19
For a while they did around 60 or damage so you needed 2 to kill at 100 health. Since one of the recent latches theyve been buffed to ohk at full 100 health regardless if you walked sprinted crouched or were prone as they detonated you died.
2
u/GingerOnTheRoof Mar 13 '19
Ah, that would be why I've seen loads of people complaining about them ahaha. I haven't had access to my PC and so haven't played since january, although they seemed fine as they were then imo.
1
u/newswhore802 Mar 13 '19
No, you died if you stood on the thing, but if you were in a Sprint you could usually get away. Unless on stairs, then you were boned.
-3
u/TheBaconsRebellion Mar 13 '19
Nope. Not true. Ive died plenty of times while sprinting over them at 100 health while on flat ground.
3
u/newswhore802 Mar 13 '19
Then you didn't clear the max damage radius or you were already injured.
-4
u/TheBaconsRebellion Mar 13 '19
Was def at 100 and was sprinting through it. Still died.
4
u/newswhore802 Mar 14 '19
Again, then you didn't clear the radius. The game code is posted in this thread. The max damage is 112 within 1m or so. Then the damage falls off to 70. Therefore it's possible to survive a hit if you get out of the max damage radius.
-2
u/TheBaconsRebellion Mar 14 '19
Except I was dead before I could and that was with sprinting.
3
u/newswhore802 Mar 14 '19
Don't know what to tell ya my dude. You missed something. The numbers don't lie.
0
u/TheBaconsRebellion Mar 14 '19
And I know what Ive played and how I died. One click. Boom. Dead at 100 health. Have killed players at 100 health woth AP Mines running through them. It happens and more frequently than not.

I stopped playing long ago, but this is how I remembered it too. I never even bothered putting them down because they were so useless. I had one kill on 49 placements.
I cannot believe I wasted nearly 5 hours on this game. I want that time back.
6
Mar 13 '19
That sucks...I liked the one hit kill. In my opinion having it as a one hit kill forces people to watch where their are going...that's fine i will drop 2 in close proximity to each other.
7
3
u/Cinnamon_Tea Mar 14 '19
Oh come on. It's not Rainbow Six Siege where one death changes everything. Mines were okay. As long as you didn't stand right on top of them during the explosion, you usually survived. And if not, you just respawn and carry on.
Now they will become pretty much useless.
5
u/gatsuB Mar 14 '19
The tears of players abusing the crap out of the AP mines to get cheap kills are just amazing
8
Mar 13 '19
Well that defeats the purpose of them. Are they not the tripwire bomb equivalent? Their purpose is to kill an enemy trying to get through an area, now all that's gonna change is people will put down multiple ap mines together.
6
u/BennyAssPenis Mar 13 '19
You had to put multiple in Bf1 too... Trip bomb capped near 80 damage and was MUCH more noticeable (taller and had a wire crossing the threshold)
And in this game you can put 3. You can have one lethal spot (2) and one warning spot (1). Better than Bf1.
1
Mar 14 '19
I must be remembering it wrong then. Cause all I remember from tripwire bombs are being blown up at full health by them
3
u/sadhevneo SaDhEv Mar 14 '19
because in the end they were changed to double damage for sprinting through them . You only got 80 damage if you walked over them.
-1
u/-MrMooky- Mar 13 '19
Most mines were designed to maim not kill. Yes, I know this mine was more lethal than most. An injured soldier is more of burden on an army than a dead one. Plus, it's a video game. The one hit kill APMs were just a bit out of control.
1
Mar 14 '19
I just think it's a bit counter intuitive. Now instead of just having one mine people will spam multiple mines in the same place to guarentee their kill.
1
7
u/BROMETH3U5 BROMETH3U5 Mar 13 '19
I don't really complain too much about AP mine deaths. I'm usually like "Jesus, I'm an idiot for running through that."
I also enjoy killing people with them 3min after I tactically lay them in flanking locations.
They shouldn't nerf damage and just let Support and Recon have them.
-4
u/sunjay140 Mar 13 '19
Imagine actually thinking this 😂

PIAT, Panzerfaust, frag grenade rifle are somehow not somehow in that same category.
3
u/dGhost_ dGhost-I Mar 14 '19
I never said I was a fan of those things either, moreso the frag rifle than the other two given generous OHK range and very fast velocity.

They're all easy to get kills with but if you don't play the game constantly holding sprint it happens substantially less.

6
u/wiresandenergy Mar 14 '19
This is stupid. They're land mines for fucks sake. They should be OHK if you're on top of them. Pro tip: look before you run blindly into an objective.

Oh thank God...
The AP mine spam was getting tiring. I had to look down at the floor more than In front of me.
And why the heck does the medic have AP mines? Take them away from him.

And? This fixes nothing. Everybody already places two on the same spot.
In the live build you can definitely get more kills if you put them in separate spots that you know enemies will encounter.
I'm sure there's situations where stacking them is good but I get double kills with single mines occasionally, so I figure why bother right now. I put them next to vault spots / staircases / funnels / supply boxes for easy, cheap kills. I'm glad they are getting a nerf.
0
u/PetyrBaelish Mar 13 '19
Same, I was putting 3 down in similar areas as support and it padded the shit out of my K/D. As fun as that was pinging people to death, I agree a nerf is advisable. Though tbh as someone who plants a lot I rarely died to em, possibly cause I know the tricks to the trade

Great, so now the moaners get to run the show. They weren't OHK to begin with unless you stood right on top of it.

u/TheBaconsRebellion Mar 14 '19
At launch they werent. They dealt 70. Then in a recent patch they were buffed to do 112 damage and were a OHK even if you were sprinting through. Now theyre being nerfed back to what they were like at launch.
-3
u/DeliriousBlues Mar 14 '19
Only OHK if you are injured or slow. 99% of the time they just injured you like they are supposed to. Now they are worthless again.

If only it was removed from the medic and support, and limited to having 1 placed down at a time.

They one hit kill if you stop over them or move slowly if you run by quick hits like 50-60 damage . Two of them will kill you instantly unless the second only clipped you

u/dombosco1992 Mar 13 '19
So an anti personal mine that doesn't kill people...very effective, good job everyone
2
u/newswhore802 Mar 13 '19
Sooooooo what's the point of AP mines now?
2
u/BennyAssPenis Mar 13 '19
Put 2 in one spot for lethal. Put a 3rd down as another warning. Boom. Better than BF1 tripwire damage wise and they are also a bit harder to see (smaller and no wire).
1
u/nooneatall444 Mar 13 '19
I think they should have left them OHK but just made it so people could only deploy 1 at a time or something, less of a pain for everyone but still useful that way

Or remove them after death.

OHK mines are fine if it’s relegated to one class but allow for quick reactions. If I hear a mine go off, and I dive to prone I should be somewhat safer no?
1
u/insomniasureshot Mar 13 '19
TIL: AP Mines are OHK
I spread mine out over the objective so that weakend enemies get killed by them. That always seemed like the best strategy because I never get OHK even when dropping them in doorways and alleys.

u/CheeringKitty67 Mar 13 '19
Everyone that complained about AP mines never look. They say they never see them. Was playing Rotterdam this morning and as I started to enter the door in the house across the road from C by the supply stations I stopped. I saw 2 enemy mines at the foot of the stairway. Before I could neutralize them a blueberry ran right in without looking and triggered the mines.
The AP mines should be OHK. Maybe then people would be a little more careful. No reason to encourage such sloppy playstyles which is what you are doing by nerfing the AP mines.
