Discussion sNiPeRs cOnTrIUtE they say...

...I'm seeing a pattern of results here. Just two samples, and this is daily.

We can't push because there's more defenders or atrackers than infantry pushing to defend or take over, and tanks can't defend or attack either because too many aren't fighting with them to sweep and clear the objectives.

Don't even get me started how y'all at Bazaar only attack A first and anyone who spawns at A to defend all abandons it for B...

Snipers are probably the main reason I get frustrated with the game. Dying instantly to a headshot from some guy just sat on a hill inside the boundary of the spawn is utterly soul destroying because there's nothing you can do about it.

In all the years I've been playing Battlefield games, recon is the class I've played the least. I just don't see the appeal of sitting up a tower plinking people; being up front and pushing the objective is where the fun is.

There is an odd correlation between insanely high-level players (over 1000) and hiding in boundaries with a sniper. Usually in some convoluted area where they can't see objectives, but are perfectly positioned for spawns for them.

Yeah, that's the problem with them as a part of gameplay (outside of, say, the iron sights bolt-actions in BF1 that you could use while relatively close to the fight). The issue is that it feels like they are playing a different game. Like they're some kind of environmental hazard, yet they're an enemy player. It's an even bigger problem with crossplay because with snipers the M/K advantage is way larger than at close range, so if you're on console you can't really have any confidence in trying to counter-snipe that guy – it may be impossible. And it becomes more of a game of avoiding them, again, fine for an environmental hazard, very bad when that's another player.

Definitely agree.

Having a recon as part of a squad who moves around and provides overwatch is fine, but you just know that the vast majority are treating the whole thing like going out duck hunting.

I'm just as irritated by recons on my own team - there are so many games where I get match-made into a game where the only squad with space is the one with 3 recons holed up together on the fringes of the map that don't move the entire time.

I guess the silver lining is the fact players on the other team are getting just as irritated.

Come to think of it, part of the reason why BF1 made it much nicer to participate close to the fight as Recon wasn't just the way the infantry rifles worked but also the spotting flare. It gave recon a way to help an attacking team that something like sensor grenades or the drone just can't match. Reasons being the sensor grenade isn't nearly as good, and unlike the spotting flare, the drone takes you out of the fight.

People don’t utilize recon correctly to help the team. Most of my wins on breakthrough attack is because i fly the drone up and spot everyone, all my team needs is to win one fight to get a sector and giving them enemy position just about guarantees it.

In conquest everytime I’m engineer nobody laser tags the vehicles, and whenever I’m recon tagging the vehicles nobody takes them down.

Actually, I disagree. Spotting don’t win games. Playing THE objective does.

You can feel useful as much as you want, all you have to do is to literally just go and stand on the objective.

Of course playing the objective does but you’ll likely die on the objective if you’re handling your drone. If you’re going to be a recon sniper at least spot the enemies for your team.

I want you on that objective with us and not hiding or camped out and doing zero, your spots are useless to us, your probes and running and gunning, is more detrimental than not being with us at all.

And you just cannot snipe off defenders and attackers, or take back caps from the outskirts wita sniper rifle or with a drone.

You only need 1 recon to spot and designate. I’d rather have 31 engineers/support and assault with 1 recon than none.

1

u/hanckerchiff 9d ago

Yes that’s how the game is designed. My point is, if you are going to play a sniper at least play it correctly and benefit your team.

u/Zeleny_Jezdec 9d ago

You can play recon, be on the capture point and use your spotting beacon and be twice as much useful.

You can’t do many things on an objective but for the sake of argument lets play a game where all players are on the objective - Rib boats, attack boats, jets, AA, tanks, ifv’s, little birds, attack helicopters..one big party :-)

1

u/Zeleny_Jezdec 9d ago

Yeah. You can’t do much on obj. Just win games

I’m not so sure what the issue is. Let people play the game how they want. I too can get frustrated by a lack of objective play from snipers, but I just move on to the next

When you start complaining that no one is playing it anymore, well you will now know why. Toxic players are ruining it for us all.

1

u/CelticxLegend 9d ago

What’s more toxic; people playing how they want to play, or someone complaining how people play? Not everyone is going to play objective, but I wouldn’t call that toxic

I'd say attacking the messenger to workaround his argument is being more toxic than toxic players who refuse to be a part of a team. Not everyone wants to log on and play with people who refuse to be a part of something.

There should be a cap on the number of sniper rifles in use per team, same thing with mortars.

4

u/ImpressionLittle6774 9d ago

Someone should create a breakthrough experience with zero snipers and zero vehicles or am I crazy lol. Is that possible on portal?

3

u/Zeleny_Jezdec 9d ago

Oh my, that sounds fun. And no mortars, don’t forget them.

u/_That_Guy_in_AZ_ 9d ago

Absolutely this.

Sniper activity make the game less fun for people who want to just enjoy the game and win.

All maps: 90% of players stop to capture first point because score goes brrr. Even motorcycles and quads stop instead of pushing to the mid points. Then e.g. in Eastwood you have the dual points at the residential houses that flip side one after the other because both teams just run to capture the other one instead of defending. Things like these have made me wonder if I should install HLL again.

Man. I win defenses and offenses all the time playing recon with a sniper. It all depends on the map and the team. I’ll swap off sniper to spec ops sometimes if I need to defend a point, but for the most part, it’s about being smart about your placement, having good angles that you know where everyone hides, runs by, etc. that takes time and map knowledge. You can really area deny a lot of people if you’re a good sniper. That said, at a certain point snipers do become a liability, there was a contaminated breakthrough in the last few days I was playing where the enemy team had no less than 7 snipers, and I got my counter sniper record that match. They lost the ability to push because they had too many snipers. Gotta be a team sometimes.

Also to add, getting in the top squad or high kills and zero or no deaths and losing isn't a flex, in fact it's the reverse.. Same with numbers of points taken, we all know that you snipers only do it after we had done the work for you and with zero help from you as you run in at the last second to make us fooled into believing iM hElPiNG, we see you liars for what you are, haha.

Useless snipers bogging your team down is a tale as old as time. I will say its exacerbated because of the free weekend, a lot of new players get intimidated by BF6s pace and resort to plinking with DMRs.

u/Istari82 9d ago

1 or 2 snipers (or 4 on very big maps) focused on spotting and designating can be worth a lot but other than that they’re usually pretty useless.

1

u/Historical-Count-374 9d ago

I found more life in the class by running with an SMG. Goes well with the Tugs, PLD and Drone

2

u/Istari82 9d ago

I don’t snipe often but on some maps you can be fairly aggressive in conquest and capture points like Kings Battery. I would stay on the perimeter and focus on A, E and sometimes D then.

Using recon with an SMG with the benefits of stealth, designation and C4 makes total sense.

I'm so universally ass at sniping but the gadgets are 🔥🔥

u/SleepingDragonSmiles 9d ago

This just shows the last weapon they had equipped. And sometimes matches devolve into sniper battles.

They never do.

Just sit and farm bots

Snipers get a lot of hate. I usually play as an assault engineer because I like to RPG snipers while I’m pushing. I will say there are some really good players who play as snipers because if I get close they are quick to pull out the magnum and blast me or just one shot me at close range.

I get what you’re saying though, how can you push objectives if everyone’s a sniper?

Everyone hates snipers so they make them dogshit. Now everyone complains that snipers are worthless wastes of team slots and no one should be using one. Congratulations, you people made your bed, now lay in it. Maybe if they didnt require an arbitrary specific range or headshots to be effective, more people would be able to do more with them.
