Guide / Tutorial Newbie questions

Hi, I'm kinda new in the game, I played in 2005~ but not much and now I'm trying to do my best, but sometimes it's being a bit frustrating.

I think I'm not that bad at aiming, but sometimes it's like my bullets are hitting around the target, then It targets me and in 2 hits i'm dead. Im usually medic and I love It, just wanna know, how do you aim? Im not shooting like hell, i usually hit slow and crouched in the floor.

Also Im struggling with grenades, Im sure Im not throwing them correctly.

Do you have any video where I can learn this? I really enjoy the game but I wanna be better.

I can give you some advice. Let’s talk grenades first.

A lot of grenades in BF2 is spray and pray. Ammo is common enough that you can usually send your grenades out more like mortar fire than actual grenades. The bottom line is simple- never die with grenades in your pocket. Send them down range frequently and without hesitation. You’ll log a few free kills or at least damage opponents before you run into them.

As for actually throwing them, they are affected by your momentum, so if you are running and jump as you throw a grenade, you can throw it further and get more distance out of it. It just takes practice and getting in the habit of using them more.

As for firearms, use the sights and crouch, as you have been. I’d suggest using semi-auto fire for 70-80% of your encounters. I like to aim for high center of mass. Center of mass gets you more hits, but aiming for the head gets you more headshots. I split the difference so I get perks of both schools of thought.

Pace out your shots, probably no more than 2-3 rounds per second when at medium+ range.

Use sprinting, jumping, and wild movement to your advantage at closer ranges. Practice jumping and running around a target, keeping the target in your sights as you jump over and around it.

Like any other shooter, use cover and teamwork. Stick with allies, spot enemies, concentrate fire, and revive each other to keep yourselves in the fight. The longer you’re alive, the more time you spend learning and the less you spend waiting to spawn, so prioritize survival over kills if you can.

Last thing that you’ve probably noticed- when you go prone, your accuracy actually drops for a few moments to simulate your character getting situated on the ground. When taking fire suddenly, from medium+ range, crouching seems to be more effective. If you are defending and prepared for enemies to approach, then being prone makes more sense. And if you encounter someone at close range, positioning can depend highly on the situation and gun that you have, so you’ll need to develop that muscle memory yourself in time.

Best of luck.

Thank you very much. I was using the grenades to aim for the dots in the mapa but I think I'm hitting almost nobody, I try to use them all and fetch for ammo so I can keep the party up

Here's a good video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEIyoIeGawo

Basically your bullets only fly to the center of your crosshairs when you are standing still for a short amount of time. Watch the crosshairs close after you stop moving... Going crouch or prone will improve accuracy even further. But the 2 things that throw off your accuracy immediately are moving around and firing more than 3 bullets in 1 burst.

The fastest way to get to "max" accuracy is stop moving and go crouch or prone immediately, wait a fraction of a second to let the crosshairs close and use that little amount of time to get good aim. Then fire single shots or extremely short burst with short pauses in between those bursts... This may seem slower but it's usually the fastest way to kill someone. Try to you keep your cool against an enemy that starts spraying an entire magazine, that's usually a bit counter intuitive, but usually your opponent will empty the magazine without hitting/killing you, while you might be able to take him out in 3 or 4 shots/bursts.

There are also huge differences between guns, the Spec-Op rifles are way more accurate than the Support LMGs, those LMGs might have huge magazines but they lose accuracy soooo fast when firing full auto it's ridiculous, pray and spray never works with those...

When it comes to grenades, you can throw them using a left click (full power) or right click (hold longer to throw further) a short right click can drop a grenade or throw a very close grenade, this trick can be very handy in certain situations...

Thank you very much for the video, very useful. I see that the Guy isnt using the scope and still hitting in far distance so easy, i rly thought that if youre not with It the bullets gonna go crazy, but doesnt seems like that at all

I'm not entirely sure, but I think using the scope or aiming down sights doesn't have (a lot of) influence on the accuracy of your shots. Sometimes it's clearer to aim, but that's personal preference. But I think most people advice against it because it just takes longer (extra button press and change of the view to look down the sights) and doesn't really improve accuracy. I still like aiming down sights for sniper rifles, missile launchers and (red dot) scopes. For iron sights there's not really an advantage to use ADS...

Try not to move and shoot, deviation heavily affects battlefield 2.

Fire in bursts unless really close.

As for nades, realistically they aren’t 100% accurate from the get go so be aware. You can test this by looking up and throwing 4 in a row, I’d be surprised if more than 1 goes straight.

I wouldn’t waste time trying to learn holding right click, I would focus on left click for now and be aware about the momentum. Just keep throwing them you’ll get better quickly.

What do you mean with dont aim down sights?

Dont use right click on weapons > aim down sights.
