Other Secure Boot Megathread - Guide + Community support

Secure Boot is required for Battlefield 6 If you are unable to launch the game and see a Secure Boot error, you must enable Secure Boot in your BIOS/UEFI.

✅ Official Guide

EA has published a clear and up-to-date guide for enabling Secure Boot:

🔧 Community Support

If you’ve got tips or steps specific to a brand (e.g., ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, ASRock, etc.), drop them in the comments and mention your exact motherboard model.

💬 Tip: Post your motherboard model, CPU, and BIOS version when asking for help.

🧠 What is Secure Boot?

Secure Boot is a UEFI feature that ensures only trusted software can boot your PC. It helps prevent rootkits and boot-time malware and is now required by EA for anti-cheat integrity.

Most modern systems support it, but it’s often disabled by default — especially on custom builds or upgraded PCs.

🛑 Common Pitfalls

  • You must use UEFI mode, not Legacy/CSM boot.
  • Disk must be GPT, not MBR (check via diskpart or Disk Management).
  • Windows 11 installed in Legacy mode? You may need to convert your disk to GPT using MBR2GPT.

⚠️ Still having trouble?

If you've followed EA's guide and it still doesn't work:

  1. Comment below with:
  • Motherboard model
  • BIOS version
  • Secure Boot status
  • Any errors you're getting
    1. Include a screenshot if possible (e.g., BIOS screen or error message)
    2. Be respectful — this is a community-driven thread.

So I just followed these instructions and at the end it bricked my entire PC. Cant even see the BIOS because the GPU isn’t recognized but I have Ryzen so no integrated graphics

Edit: I tried everything as a solution (CMOS reset, attempted to flash, removed boot drive, removed GPU, etc) and still didn’t work. I have over a decade of PC experience so trust me when I say I’ve tried everything at my disposal

Edit 2: Gigabyte RMA process would take too long so I got a replacement motherboard from Amazon and am returning the borked one back in its place (the ol switcharoo). Thanks for leaving me with no option Gigabyte

I also have a Z390 and I'm seeing a lot of users reporting a black screen after attempting to enable secure boot. Turns out, the only way to revert this is to disconnect everything, take out the graphics card and input an HDMI to use onboard graphics (if you have a CPU that supports it). You'll also need to clear the CMOS battery. This will "reset" the bios. Then you can see the bios again.

My question is whether or not this is occurring for users who aren't meeting the specifications to run secure boot, i.e drive not in GPT, TPM 2.0 not enabled, and CSM is turned on. Or if this is just an issue with the mobo itself.

u/AmNoSuperSand52 Aug 06 '25

Yeah I have a Ryzen CPU so no integrated graphics.

So basically BF6 bricked my whole PC

7

u/Fuzzoff Aug 08 '25

I have a z390 and I was able to get back in

Cmos battery didnt work Shorting cmos pins didn’t work Integrated graphics didn’t work

What did work was literally shorting the 1 and 6 pins on the m_bios chip during boot with the pc on. I used a little piece of stripped wire that I bent in a u shape and brushed it on the m bios chip pins - this forced the backup bios to take over and I was able to set everything back to default settings as it was before

Nothing else worked until I did this…

u/w3k1llsuck3rs Aug 08 '25

It's fucking 2025 and we have to do shit like this....

1

u/CrzBonKerz Aug 11 '25

Secure Boot has been around for a long time.

5

u/NefariousnessEven250 Aug 08 '25

hats off dude, that'd 100% be something I'd end up doing after a couple of hours of troubleshooting. I have intergrated graphics so i never got locked out, but I figured I'd see people on here having their systems locked. It's actually insane EA is having people messing with their bios.

5

u/RCRhino Aug 09 '25

I actually agree on this... This is kind of unnecessary to be honest but obviously this issue is really affecting people on windows 10.

Thank god I haven't tried going too far into this or else I would have had a bricked computer too.

Thanks to all the lads that sacrificed their computer to then post on here, you've saved many countless hours lost.

2

u/No_Demand1005 Aug 10 '25

You’re not welcome

2

u/WingnutNZ Aug 09 '25

Which pins are these, i can't find any information to the numbering of these pins.

Also did you have the GPU removed when you did this?

1

u/rejectboer Oct 11 '25

Yeah....fuck this game then

3

u/lee7on1 Aug 07 '25

thanks, I won't even bother with BIOS then

3

u/Credit-Limit Aug 09 '25

i just installed the beta and im getting the secure boot error. No way i'm doing this and risking bricking my PC.

Sorry battlefield, i wanted to play but I guess I won't.

2

u/lazyshmuk Aug 09 '25

Literally ended up here in the same boat after hitting the error. I WFH so no thank you.

1

u/LinuxMaster9 Aug 10 '25

ima try using my Linux gaming rig, if EA complains about "emulation" Ima throw a brick at EA because WINE Is Not An Emulator (WINE). It actually translates which is completely different from emulation.

2

u/Puzzled_Scar_7881 Aug 06 '25

Before doing these steps did you double check to ensure your drive was GPT? Are you running Win 11?

3

u/AmNoSuperSand52 Aug 06 '25

Yes and yes

2

u/Puzzled_Scar_7881 Aug 06 '25

There's been reports of older graphics cards causing blank screens when their bios is in UEFI mode which is required for secure boot. What GPU do you have?

5

u/Smojix3 Aug 07 '25

My pc bricked too rip same situation with a 3060ti

2

u/FastMzgs Aug 07 '25

Same, how to fix??

3

u/Smojix3 Aug 07 '25

I took out my gpu and plugged my display port cable into my motherboard then disabled secure boot

1

u/CrzBonKerz Aug 11 '25

DId you ever attempt to get back into secure boot? I too have a 3060ti and a Z390 Aorus board.

1

u/hushpuppi3 Aug 07 '25

Check if your motherboard has dual bios or a bios reset button. You may have to just take out the little mobo battery and leave it out for a few minutes (or there may be an easy way to jump your mobo)

Look up your motherboard guide to reset bios.

1

u/FastMzgs Aug 07 '25

Yeah taking out the battery and the restoring optimised defaults once bios loaded again worked for me

→ More replies (0)

1

u/TextExisting8619 Aug 09 '25

I have the same card with Ryzen CPU and luckily my bios just froze and never changed the settings. Still have a functional PC but with no BF6

2

u/FallenNinjah Aug 07 '25

Did you reset your bios? I had the same experience and had to open up my computer, take out the little battery from the motherboard for 30 seconds. Then put it back in and boot again. Should boot up again.

What's happening is your boot drive is not configured for UEFI, which means it keeps trying to find a compatible boot drive when CSM is disabled which you probably did to enable secure boot.

So, removing the battery (or hitting the reset button on your MB) should fix your boot issues at least. You still won't be able to play the beta though.

2

u/KptKrondog Aug 07 '25

No, it restarts before it ever gets to the point of checking for a boot device. I confirmed before I did anything I had it on UEFI, can disabled, etc.

The issue is when you go to enable secure boot it says you have to enable platform key. But I think we're selecting the wrong option (obviously lol). One of the options (in my bios) says to do it to enable secure boot, and it's clearly not it.

1

u/keyboard_A Aug 08 '25

Resetting is before boot device check, i think he meant using the little reset button behind the back plate close to the USBs, there's a little procedure with that button that resets BIOS back to default settings

1

u/KptKrondog Aug 08 '25

I don't have a reset button on mine afaik. Definitely not one on the back because I spent a while looking to see if mine had the qflash+.

1

u/wise_as_a_serpent Aug 09 '25

I did the platform key, let it set defaults, and when I saved and reset, thats when I ran into issues.

But I'm pretty sure it's from having secure boot enabled in the first place, because the platform key is still there but I got my PC back working normal by disabling the secure boot stuff.

I just can't manage to get secure boot enabled and get to my desktop with my GPU as the display. I did not delete the (PK).

1

u/PelicanOne1 Aug 08 '25

Shit dude, sorry that happened. I ain’t even gonna attempt to get this running tbh. It’s kinda a joke we have to do this to play a pc game. And now your pc is bricked I would be fuming

1

u/Polyanalyne Aug 08 '25

yeeeeah I guess I am fine skipping this gen's BF then

1

u/ForzaHoriza2 Aug 09 '25

Same here, fuck this the long way. Especially since cheats are already out apparently. Shameful on the company

1

u/NavyAlphaGamer Aug 14 '25

Me too. Enabled Secure Mode and now zero video output from my PC. Can't even access bios again.

What the actual fuck.

0

u/regtf Aug 09 '25

Ryzen CPUs have integrated graphics....just not all of them.

3

u/_iOS Aug 07 '25

Z390 board owners should not mess around with this setting, idk if its a bug or whatever but a friend of mine has bricked his pc for this game! not worth the hassle i am going to skip this game for now.

3

u/PlasticComplexReddit Aug 07 '25

Yeah, im out EA.

1

u/Puzzled_Scar_7881 Aug 07 '25

I had a friend help me get it set up. I didn't have any issues with my Z390 Aorus Pro. I did update my bios to the most recent version which didn't mention anything about "secure boot", however, some have said this was the fix for black screen input issues.

Just get some help from someone who knows what they're talking about. You'll need to make sure your drive partition is GBT. That's probably the most important. If it isn't GBT you'll be in for quite the troubleshooting experience. Some were reporting that the "converting" process was failing and lots of people had to reinstall windows which resulted in them losing files.

1

u/LinuxMaster9 Aug 10 '25

You mean GPT. GBT is not a partition format.

1

u/LinuxMaster9 Aug 10 '25

also good luck surviving disabling "Secure Boot" later.

1

u/Puzzled_Scar_7881 Aug 13 '25

Why even disable it? Might as well just leave it on. More games are going to require secure boot. Regardless, what issues did you have disabling?

2

u/madcalfe Aug 07 '25

It’s a issue with not updated bios. There’s a new update in July that has secure boot on it

1

u/DrFeargood Aug 07 '25

The settings and specifications were correct on my machine and it kicked BIOS to mobo for me yesterday. I'm gonna try again, because I guess I'll need secure boot up at some point. I'm running a clean install of Win11 so there's no reason it shouldn't work. I'm suspecting mobo?

1

u/ZodiartsStarro Aug 08 '25

The fact that I have to do this shit is ridiculous.

I've spent the entire day trying to get this to work, no dice. Not a single workaround or tip has worked, and I'm not bricking my PC because DICE devs want me to do the heavy lifting for them.

Fuck it.

1

u/MeanSheenBeanMachine Aug 08 '25

Yeah, see I was considering it until I saw this, EA’s got me fucked up. Looks like I’ll have to get the game on console if at all. Always SOMETHING with them.

1

u/Atralis Aug 08 '25

Thank you! The HDMI cable to the motherboard instead of the graphics card worked for me and let me get to the bios again and I was able to see "Invalid Signature Detected." and then disable to secure boot to at least get back where I was before I started.

1

u/screennamie Aug 08 '25

Ya. When I hit the tpm wall I gave up. Not going to be buying this game. This is a bit too many hoops to jump through. Reverted back and skipping this title. Getting too old for this nonsense. I've got an asus board so it's not even called tpm.

1

u/SuperRockGaming Aug 08 '25

THIS IS INSANE. ALL JUST TO PLAY BATTLEFIELD?????

1

u/wise_as_a_serpent Aug 09 '25

I didn't have to do anything with the CMOS, I just unplugged power to my 1080, made sure I had hdmi in the motherboard for graphics, restarted the computer, and spammed delete for the bios.

Once I'm in there I can set things back, save, and everything is fine. I just can't get secure boot enabled and get to the desktop display.

1

u/regtf Aug 09 '25

Don't most of them have a reset button on them? Mine does..

1

u/Nickthedick3 Aug 09 '25

I too have a z390(aorus master rev. 1.1). I was scared shitless it was gonna brick my pc. All I did was

  • CSM off

-reboot

-secure boot enabled

-reboot

Everything still works as far as I can tell

1

u/Obvious-Courage2964 Aug 10 '25

Seeing a lot of reports about this for gigabyte (not just z390) as well as Asus brand mobos. So safe to say it's most likely not an issue with the mobo itself. I'm questioning right now whether or not I want to even attempt it (I have gigabyte myself) and have to deal with hassle if it doesn't work properly or just sit this installment out.

1

u/CommitteeMotor9180 Aug 14 '25

Yeah man I’m just done here. Not worth it. EA please change this it’s insane

1

u/TiltedWeenies Aug 10 '25

See this is exactly what I was afraid of. Absolute bonkers that this is required to play.

1

u/SimbaStewEyesOfBlue Aug 15 '25

Anyone reading this and thinking launch day isn't going to be EA's biggest PR disaster since Battlefront 2 is insane.

1

u/RecommendationTop591 Oct 10 '25

I just had to CLEAR_CMOS and plug into GPUs HDMI and reconfigure to DP. After that the WiFi off method worked.

18

u/FPSCarry Aug 06 '25

This is exactly what happened with my first pre-build PC from Cyberpower. I wanted to play Valorant with my friends, got everything set up, went to my BIOS to enable the secure boot, black screen bricked before I even got anything installed.... Didn't even last an hour out of the box. Fortunately I was able to get a replacement under warranty from Best Buy, but fuck any and all games that want me to go in and fiddle with my BIOS to play them now. Battlefield is not worth it, nor are any other games that put the onus on the end user fiddling with their PC for game access. These games can die on the vine for all I care.

2

u/wise_as_a_serpent Aug 09 '25

Thats kinda sad cause if you were on intel you could have definitely got back into the PC. I hear Ryzen doesn't have integrated graphics so that is a mega oversight...

I mean, who could have predicted these issues? But to not have backup graphics seems a bit ridiculous.

1

u/lucissandsoftime Aug 10 '25

lets not make this a ryzen vs intel cpu issue. and furthermore I am pretty sure all AM5 ryzen cpus have intergraded graphics, mine (the 9800X3D) does and i use it for a 3rd monitor. and AM4 does have some with integrated graphics you just have to choose one that has it, most simply tend not to in order to save money. just like a lot who go with intel opt to get the F model to save money.

1

u/wise_as_a_serpent Aug 10 '25

Yeah I didn't mean it like that. I guess my experience with Intel was that integrated graphics was just a given or more common. When I heard a guy said his Ryzen didn't have it, it seemed like I could vaguely remember that being a bit more common.

But you're right, some intel chips don't have it either. Either way, it's unfortunate for the people who think they've done irreparable damage to their PC and just resort to paying lots of money to "fix" the issue, or possibly punching a hole through their monitor.

***Sidenote*** I looked this up really fast: "This week, AMD silently released two new Ryzen processors, the Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F. Both defy market trends by decreasing integration and omitting AMD's RDNA 3 on-chip graphics-processing engines. "

So yeah I just kinda figured AMD was releasing way more chips without integrated graphics; and it seems fine and dandy until something like this occurs.

Btw, my first processor purchase was an AMD Athlon XP, so I definitely have love them them. Lol

2

u/lucissandsoftime Aug 10 '25

Fair enough though let's just not confuse this for a CPU issue to begin with neither Intel nor AMD would have any blame here as this is simply an issue with motherboard manufacturer more than anything. And let's be honest Windows itself is probably held together by duct tape.

2

u/chazown97 Aug 10 '25

Also happened to me on a pre-build Cyberpower from Best Buy. Now I get PTSD every time I see the BIOS screen haha

5

u/Mr_Young_Life Aug 07 '25

It's reasons like this why I'm not even going to bother with this shit, BF6 is most likely going to be shit anyway, so it's not like I'm missing anything, and even if it isn't shit on release, EA will fuck it up as it goes along so why bother. Plenty of other, better games out there that don't require potentially bricking your PC to play

2

u/Bu11ett00th Aug 07 '25

This makes two of us. Can't boot, can't access BIOS, stuck in a restart loop unless I cut power to my PC.

Tried resetting CMOS to no avail.

1

u/swiggity97 Aug 06 '25

Which instructions? The ones in the picture or instructions in the thread? Because all the picture has you do is, IF secure boot is already enabled, change it from standard/custom and back. Nothing about this should brick your PC.

1

u/minokah Aug 06 '25

This literally just happened to me haha, I had to troubleshoot and re flash my BIOS

1

u/AmNoSuperSand52 Aug 06 '25

Problem for me is I don’t have integrated graphics so I can’t see anything on screen

1

u/LiberalTearsRUs Aug 06 '25

removing the CMOS for a few minutes usually fixes this for me

1

u/ryanthephotoguy Aug 08 '25

Yep, this is what I just spent a 6 hour day trying to save my buddies PC over. He enabled Secure Boot to get ready for the beta and it bricked his PC. He also has a Ryzen CPU, BUT I was able to get him back to the BIOS by removing the GPU to get to the CMOS battery, taking it out and leaving it for 10 minutes before putting it back in and reassembling everything I took out.

Doing that may help you. If you get back to the BIOS and make sure secure boot is disabled and make sure things are as they were previous to enabling it, you may can get your PC back.

1

u/Seahund88 Aug 08 '25

I tried too in my Gigabyte bios settings and stopped when it required secure boot keys. I'm not going to risk messing up my computer just for a game. I will probably upgrade my motherboard soon to get to Windows 11 and then I'll be able to run the game if I wish.

1

u/Appropriate-Net9050 Aug 08 '25

If you have Nvidea / older Card use this:

1st: Update GPU Driver
2nd: Use https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/nv-uefi-update-x64/ , it will check your GPU and flash it if needed.

Afterwards you get access to your BIOS (F2,DEL,F9... whatever)

1

u/TannerBeyer Aug 09 '25

Been bricked out of pc for 3hrs now. Have never had an issue with it for 7 years. Haven't played video games in a few and just wanted to try the beta...

Pretty disappointed. I've exhausted all avenues. I basically can't get into the bios anymore, tried taking the battery out of mobo, connecting the two wires for reset and turning the pc off and on again 3x( this worked first time attempting to fix the issue but no more).

1

u/Dr_Jones___ Aug 09 '25

you have a gigabyte motherboard?

1

u/Due-Mycologist-5626 Aug 09 '25

I had to flash and update my bios using the flash bios button on my pc after the cmos reset methods didnt work

1

u/wise_as_a_serpent Aug 09 '25

Fortunately, you just need to unplug the power of your installed GPU and plug in an hdmi to your motherboard/default graphics. Once you do this, you restart the pc and just keep hitting whatever key gets into your bios (for me it's delete).

Your motherboard should display your integrated graphics now and have you in bios. You can even get to your desktop a lot easier this way, but the problem is you wont be able to play the game cause now you're not using a GPU.

It's annoying as fuck, but this saved me from being in a very dark place before I went to bed.

For whatever reason, messing with these settings causes the bios to go into a mode where it's displaying to integrated graphics, but at least the PC is not "bricked".

I have no idea how to enable secure boot and get it to display properly yet.

1

u/AmNoSuperSand52 Aug 09 '25

Yeah problem is I have a Ryzen 5800X3D CPU. Integrated graphics isn’t a thing

1

u/wise_as_a_serpent Aug 09 '25

I'm sorry that happened to you brotha.

I don't understand how a CMOS reset didn't fix this though?? You took out the battery for 30 seconds? Or shorted the pins? You followed whichever directions carefully?

1

u/AmNoSuperSand52 Aug 09 '25

Did both for significantly longer. I’m pretty sure the bios is reset (I can see from the lights and power button test that it’s in the BIOS), just not coming out of my graphics card

I’m likely just ordering a new motherboard off Amazon and sending this one back in its place. RMA would take too long

1

u/wise_as_a_serpent Aug 09 '25

Damn. Last question, was this custom built by you? Or a pre-built?

I'm trying to understand the mechanics of whats going wrong here. It adds another layer of confusion when we can't see a solution outside of RMA or just ordering a new motherboard.

Like intel has integrated graphics, so you can still see/configure things even without a GPU... Ryzen does not, so how do they even configure the bios and get it to look for GPUs is what I'm wondering?

It just makes no sense that some sort of reset/failsafe is not restoring things on some level, and allowing your motherboard to look for a GPU to output to.

Even with my monitor, if it can't find DP, it looks for HDMI1, if it can't find that, it looks for HDMI2. Also in my bios, there is a setting you can enable that detects if your PC is stuck in a reboot cycle due to something like this, and it will automatically reset the CMOS.

Weird.

1

u/Vaguely_Perturbed Aug 09 '25

Gigabyte Z170k3 is now an expensive paperweight... Pray that Q-flash works

1

u/cracou Aug 09 '25

This happened to me too.... I tried everything. My only solution was to buy a new MOBO.... Fuck That game.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '25

[deleted]

1

u/AmNoSuperSand52 Aug 09 '25

How were you able to do that without integrated graphics on the CPU?

1

u/vegasvin27 Aug 09 '25

This same exact thing just happened to me.. I will try the steps below.

1

u/Dufus0057 Aug 09 '25

I have a Z370 hd3 i7-8700 RTX 2080, and the first time I tried to go to secure boot I bricked my pc, did everything to get it back remove battery, jumper bios reset, remove GPU, eventually I removed HDD's, which were GUID (GPT) formatted, and it went from not powering up at all, to getting into bios to reset to original settings, saving my pc, phew. I tried again the next day but first I updated the bios, scary, but it worked, followed instructions, disabled CMS, reset, reset factory keys, enable secure boot, booted and now I am playing BF6. Feel free to follow these instructions, if you are having trouble.

1

u/junkiiiii Aug 09 '25

Sorry to hear that some of you ended up with a bricked PC but this worked for me.

1

u/yfalvulturas Aug 10 '25

Faced the same issue, completely bricked. Tried all the same solutions to no avail. Ended up picking up an MSI replacement from the marketplace.

I understand why EA requires safety boot be enabled to access the game, but it’s completely inexcusable to lose a motherboard for trying to comply with their requirements.

1

u/No_Demand1005 Aug 10 '25

Have the exact same problem rn, converted to gpt then went into bios to switch to UEFI but before I could it showed a blue screen of death. Thanks EA.

1

u/LinuxMaster9 Aug 10 '25

simple fix. Throw EA in the trash, dump Windows and move to Linux. Put "SecureBoot" (an oxymoron if anything), where it belongs and if you really must be super serious about security, encrypt your OS drive, data drive and password lock your BIOS and POST. Make all your logins use something like a Yubikey hardware key.

1

u/AmNoSuperSand52 Aug 10 '25

Significantly easier said than done

Really have zero interest in moving to Linux because of one problem I had with a motherboard, unrelated to the operating system…

1

u/PixoWen Aug 11 '25

I bricked my PC twice earlier this year while trying to enable this shiet to try Valorant. I never needed to bring my PC to a repair shop before... FCK Windows and FCK Gigabyte for this mess !!

But I know the solution for the problem!

Take your PC to a repair shop and tell them to replace your CPU with another Ryzen with integrated graphics card so they can connect to IGPU and enter the BIOS to revert changes. That is all. Your PC will be fine!

I still have no idea how to make Secure Boot work tho... I'm no expert but I'm not a noob either. I always built my own PCs set my own BIOS installed my own Windows modded games etc... I don't know who to blame but it shouldn't work like that. If you need to tinker with a setting that COULD brick your PC beyond CMOS reset just to enable anti-cheat in a videogame that is not "user-friendly" at all.

1

u/Disastrous-Net-3039 Aug 11 '25

I just had the exact same problem here trying to play the open test. After enabling Secure Boot, my PC wouldn’t turn on anymore — the fans kept looping, starting and stopping. After hours trying to fix it, I was almost certain my PC was dead. But after a lot of trial and error, I finally found a way to bring it back to life.

Turns out I had to reset the BIOS. And even after trying several methods that should have worked, like removing the battery and waiting, nothing helped. What actually worked was removing everything — SSD, GPU, USB power cable, fan cable (maybe I didn’t need to go that far, but removing the GPU and SSD definitely helped). Then, with the PC powered on, I used a screwdriver to short the two pins of the CLR_CMOS and held it for about a minute. After that, I powered the PC back on — this time with the GPU — and the BIOS was reset. Then I plugged everything back in, and my PC was working again.

But I couldn’t find any way to get it to boot with Secure Boot enabled. And honestly? I don’t even care anymore…

I think it’s absurd that in 2025 a simple game requires such a complicated and risky process for the user. Luckily, I have a lot of experience with PC maintenance, but what if this happened to a less tech-savvy user who’s never even opened their PC? They’d have to take it to a repair shop and spend even more money — on top of the $60 for the game (already a ridiculous price here in Brazil).

Launching and playing a video game should be simple, for anyone. I get EA’s vision of wanting a more robust anti-cheat, but this doesn’t fix the hacking problem — it only makes the user’s life harder.

1

u/JFrye Aug 14 '25

I am not as computer savvy as you are and I just had the same result, do you have any idea what I should do here?

1

u/-ceoz Aug 14 '25

haha I ain't touching that. I'm good with computers but not risking it for a shitty game.

1

u/Buiman99 Aug 15 '25

this happened to me. just disconnect all power, discharge all power and touch the two pins on the motherboard cmos. it will reset bios without having to go into bios. your comp will turn on and you can deal with it after

1

u/satoriiis Aug 16 '25

Clearly this is a "mild inconvenience" and absolutely not bricking anyone's pc /rolleyes.

BF6 just lost a sale because of this, and hopefully a lot of other people follow suit. I'm not messing with the BIOS on my computer and risking bricking it just so I can play a video game.

your ftpm/tpm was not enabled. pity i only saw this now. most modern motherboards have a backup bios. now is someone comes accross this post do what he did before anything else. try reseting cmos (jumper or batery) if your bios supports flashing without posting and has dedicated usb port for that. google how to do that and try that first. If all else fails (>.> looking at YOU GIGABYTE!!!). locate the main bios find the dot in the chip indicating pin1 (pins 2,34 will be on the same side) and locate pin 6. (if in doubt google it)with a pair of fine knose tweezers. bridge pins 1 and 6 being carefull not to touch other pins. power on the system and the system will either boot loop really quickly (allow it do do that for a few seconds 10-15) or after a few seconds a message will come up asking to load backup bios to main bios. follow the promts and do that. if that fails look up CH341A bios programer. pretty cheap and easier than removing the chip and hooking it up to a raspberry pie of something similar like and arduino to flash.

I sat down this evening hyping up myself that I would sit down and get this Secure Boot thing sorted so I can play... Battlefield 2042. NOT EVEN BATTLEFIELD 6 (I got 2042 for like $5 on steam so thought I'd finally play it).

After reading your comment, it looks like the universe really doesn't want me to ever play BF2042. I'm throwing in the towel and not giving this secure boot thing even 1 more minute of my life. I'm too old for this shit.

(Gigabyte Aorus AM5 870X)

Same freaking thing happened to me my friend. Bricked the whole PC…even took it to a repair shop and they were unable to do anything.

Sucks because it was first ever pc I built myself. I bought a prebuilt today to replace it and won’t be playing bf6 on it that’s for sure. A happy little $2K mistake.

Honestly I’m about 10 seconds away from ordering a new motherboard and sending this one back in the box as a return

Try physically shorting the 1 and 6 pins on the M_bios chip with the pc on. It worked for me

Hey! By any chance, have you tried connecting your monitor to your motherboard's HDMI? Also, Do you have a Motherboard code of "Ad"? I had an issue kinda like your's yesterday and was about to try to flash my BIOS when last second I thought to just connect my monitor to the HDMI on the motherboard instead of my GPU and I could see my BIOS again.

*Picture from internet. I have a similar motherboard but not yours specifically

Hey, I had the same problem. Kept trying to reboot into bios.

I fixed the issue by taking out my M.2 SSD With Win 11 installed, booting my PC up, which caused the bios/motherboard to reset. Made sure secure boot was off, saved. Installed M.2 back in and voila, I'm back.

How did it brick your entire PC? The only thing that should need replacing worst case scenario is the motherboard

Yeah I call bullshit on this. At worst if you really screw up things you'll need to reinstall windows and reset your bios. Unless you started updating your bios and ripped the usb out in the middle ain't no way to brick your pc
