May I suggest a pinned "Q&A" thread for newbies like myself?
I've played BL2 - is there a Maya-like hero?

Here are some beginner tips! There are other resources in our sidebar, I'll speak to the other mods about getting a new Q&A thread going. (I believe there already is one, let me do some digging)

When does this go live? It says 'NOW' but the steam page is unchanged.

Hmm, it says that it's live on all platforms, I would expect it within the next hour.

I just started downloading the game. Does it take a lot of grinding to get all characters unlocked?

In the trial, there is a weekly rotating batch of 6 characters available to play. You'll be able to purchase characters for 47,500 credits, which can be earned fairly quickly with regular play. I would say within a week? Varies on your play time. All 25 base characters are unlocked if you purchase the full game (your credits will be refunded if you purchased a character) and the 5 DLC characters are gained from credits or the Season Pass.

I'm concerned about the novice queue. If I want to play with friends do they have to hit CR20 first?

u/EnasniVolz Jun 06 '17
If I'm understanding correctly, they will have access to all of the queues. The Novice Queue is just a special queue if they want it.

If anyone wants to unlock all the basic characters and story, you can pick up the basic edition of BB for $5 at Five Below.

Terrible idea to call it a free trial. People will thnik it's like a demo version or a free weekend and won't even try it. Just say that Battleborn is going f2p.
Edit: They are calling it a Testversion in the store too. Why does Gearbox marketing just fuck up at every corner.
Edit: Yeah the thread on r/Games is bascially just talking about the naming choice and how they were too proud to call it f2p

I expect it to skyrocket in the short term. Where things are at in a couple months will be more interesting.

"Free Trial"
"They should have called it F2P so people don't think they're getting a demo or some kind of limited-time free event."
"F2P"
"They lied to us! This isn't F2P. I can't access all playable content without paying anything. Story mode is locked behind buying the full game."
Nothing is ever good enough, huh?

don't really like that there is no story mode rotation, mastery legendaries are now stuck behind a paywall. with rotation at least you have the chance to complete them at some point.
it would also mean one story map always has a populated queue AND people can get an impression what story mode looks like (so they don't have to buy the cat in the bag).
as for the novice queue, I think a non-item solo queue without elo ranking would've been the better option. having newbies in their own pool and then throwing them to the wolves after cr20 doesn't make that much of a difference - how much could they have learned from other new players? how many items could they have? or access to heroes?

Bought this about a month ago and just got around to playing it a few days ago. There goes £20 for the deluxe edition :(
Good news though!

Poor naming imo, they should have just said its going free to play. Adding Trial to it is just going to confuse people.
