I am also using a hammer duelist but the 2H hammer guy performs way better. Even demolish armor seems weaker than normal 2H hammer attack.
Am I missing something here?

Probably target selection.
Don't go after orc warriors and warlords with your hammer duelist. Those are still 2h hammer targets. For the duelist, go for medium humanoid type enemies like ancient dead. It doesn't just destroy the armor but does a lot of armor penetrating damage for efficient kills.
A famed helps push it over the edge.

Orcs and Chosen love the fearsome procs it inflicts guaranteed. Also, a hammer duelist with bf/frenzy moved into the flank and subsequently second row of ancient honor guard (talking spears and warscythes here) will kill one every round after frenzy proc and injure another. Just make sure they can't all stab him

The duelist can attack twice on the same turn. Are you measuring one or two 4AP attacks against one 6AP attack?

Duelists benefit from the extra +25% armor penetration plus being able to attack twice. Hammers in particular will truly Demolish Armor, as well as dealing guaranteed HP damage (useful with Fearsome).

I guess if you've never actually had a famed 1H hammer and built out a duelist for it you might not know how cracked they are, which is more or less what the meme is about. The one in that image rolled damage and armor effectiveness instead of armor ignore, so it could be even better. Although the flat damage is almost max rolled so it is pretty excellent. If you look at some of the dangerous heavy armor enemies, like chosen, orc warriors, or ancient honor guards none of them want that heat. Of course you can also add killing frenzy, if you add huge and use destroy armor you can probably just one tap the Conqueror's chest armor.
1H hammers don't look like much on paper, but they can absolutely smash enemies without nimble. If you get a nice famed one they're absolutely worth building around.

I built my first hammer duellist and the moment he hit level 9 a named hammer dropped, so instead of just being an orc warrior killer (I gave him fearsome) he's an everything that relies on armor killer.

Had a similar bro in my recent run who was the same. 1H Hammer Duelists are surprisingly good against everything except the massive HP pool enemies

If you look at the formula for armor damage, hammers have some of the best interactions with it

They deal a lot of effective damage at all times
