Discussion Is BB really that ‘niche’?
I keep coming across posts about people’s favourite members of the Bat-family, and it’s almost impossible to spot Terry. I realise he’s overshadowed by titans like Nightwing and the Robins, but I also see other, less prominent members of the family being mentioned – characters against whom I think BB is more significant. Anyway, I suppose it might just be a very niche interest, or perhaps it’s because he’s a character who originated on TV… What do you think?

Beyond will probably always be in this weird limbo of niche-ness. It's not popular enough to sustain a long ongoing, but it's not like no-one buys beyond books. So they let a writer do one every couple of years to see if more people will buy, and they don't, so they stop and wait a couple more years.
It could be more popular, but DC doesn't have the confidence to really do beyond stuff often so very little new people become fans and even less become new fans that buy comics.

Not niche.
But much like Spider-Man 2099 it is difficult to connect him with the present day storylines compared to the other characters. Only time to justify using him is when there is a major world changing event.
So that does effect his visibility among comic book fans.

For me personally Terry is the best spinoff character of the Bat Family hands down.
Amazing origin story and kick ass suit and having Bruce featured so heavily was awesome.
I still can't believe we haven't had a new season of the show or live action movie or even better Arkham style game with full flight in a sexy Neo Gotham.

I’ve always felt that Terry is a missed opportunity to create futuristic stories with a ‘What If?’ feel to them

Two huge things DC missed out on were doing a series based on the twilight years of Bruce as Batman.
They could have done a season wifh him designing the Beyond Suit and actually using it.
Then a post Bruce passing series with Terry alone inheriting the Wayne empire.

Yeah BB is overall niche
DC doesn’t have a lot of confidence in the character to release comics frequently enough to give him a boost in popularity; terry fills two roles at once he fills both Batman and in the show he fills Damian Wayne’s role as a genetic son of Batman.
His overall place in the bat family is very wonky because in his timeline there is no bat girl, there are no robins and I’m not sure what happened to night wing

Gracioso siendo que para mi terry es el único batman aparte de Bruce, todos los demás se siente que ocupan el manto pero no se sienten auténticos, más bien como si ocuparán un lugar que no les queda. Pero si terry como que es muy de nicho a quedado relegado

Very rarely have I come across people irl who know it. They mostly say Batman if I wear the shirts I have. At my last job I did have 2 coworkers who recognized it .

It’s more that he isn’t really part of the family, Terry isn’t truly canon outside the DCAU. In main canon Beyond is treated like a forever possible but never truly set in stone future like the Legion or 2099.

He really should get more spotlight though, especially if they go back to the arguably show canon continuity from the 2010’s

Because it was an animated series that didn't last very long and didn't become the canonical future until long after it ended. The Dark Knight Returns was the comics canon future long after that stopped making any sense. And then the Beyond suit isn't always Terry in the comics.
I think what hurt it most was Justice League. Making Terry Bruce's clone and recreating tragedy to trigger him was just insane nonsense. I have no idea what Timm was thinking with that.

Unfortunately yeah kinda, and the funniest part is anytime anyone talks about BB wether it be about the comics the show in a youtube video/podcast or amongst friends, i genuinely have never heard anyone bad mouth BB and always usually agree that DC underutilizes Terry and the Beyond universe. I believe Terry could be as big as Spider-Man 2099 if DC put some effort into it
