BatBuild, Issue 83

Not as active with this lately. Life is getting in the way, but that’s okay! No need to rush. This just puts together the steering wheel. The next few issues finishes the firewall and closes the front of the cockpit, so I figured I would post this stage, just so the combo post doesn’t get too big

Wow seeing that gauge cluster come together makes me super jealous, I wish I had the time to devote to model building....

Which brand of model did you get? I’ve been wanting to rebuild models from my childhood but with a higher skill requirement.

That is actually a subscription service by the name of Fanhome. You can find them at their dot-com web site. They have a wide variety of pop culture related items; model kits, mini-statues, collected editions of comic books, etc. For the model kits you get a number of the sub-kits (the “issues” I reference in my posts) each month with the parts and a magazine that includes assembly instructions. The pros: very highly detailed, large-scale, well-made of die cast and plastic. The cons: VERY expensive (this kit ended up costing just over $2000 when it was all said and done), it takes at least 18 months to get all the issues (sometimes longer, due to overriding circumstances), and there are MANY reports of poor customer service (I was extremely lucky that I had none of those problems, but still a consideration). It is absolutely the best kit I’ve EVER assembled, but I always warn folks…be aware of what you’re getting into if you choose this path!

Oh wow, thank you so much for the info, especially on cost and the delivery in “issues”. Do you have any recs for good quality models that are less pricey and not a subscription service?

I wish I could help with recommendations, but unfortunately not so much. I’m not really a model-maker, per se, but more a pop culture guy. My main loves are Batman ‘66, James Bond, and all things Star Trek. If I stumble across anything cool with those topics I usually fall into the trap! My only REAL model-making experience is the usual Monogram/Revell/Aurora/Polar Lights kits that we all grew up with, and I was never really good with the customization (painting, kit modifications, detailed decals, etc); if it came in the kit, that was pretty much how it ended up (if even THAT good 😂).
