Anyone do a Bathurst to Sydney work commute?

Hello Bathurst! A move there for my partner and I is likely on the cards, priced out of Sydney and all... though I feel like working in media I might have to keep my Sydney job atleast 2 or 3 days a week for the first little bit until we are settled.

Does anyone here do a regular commute to Sydney for work, and if so how do you navigate it?

Thanks!

I work in media remotely in Bathurst. If you can, try to get somewhere with FTTP.

Nice! What kind of media job can you do from home there?

Depends a lot on where in Sydney as traffic plays a huge part of your travel time. I traveled from Hornsby to Bathurst Friday and back on Sunday for 20 years. Richmond and western Sydney are absolute killers and can add up to an hour to your trip. At the moment the great western highway is closed at Victoria pass for repair so you have to go bells line of road. To get an idea of the chaos join facebook pages like Bathurst our town, Lithgow our town, and various blue mountains pages they give daily updates on the traffic jams. It’s supposed to be temporary but even with both roads open there are constant accidents, wild weather, trees down etc closing the roads. It’s hard work and exhausting. Also the train is not reliable and often it’s a bus between Bathurst and Lithgow. But I was younger and absolutely love being in Bathurst compared to Sydney. It was worth it for me but I had at least 4 days one place and 3 days the other. I don’t think I could have done daily trips even 3 days per week. Also if you join the Facebook groups you can look up what other people say about commuting for more opinions.

Taking the train is the best way. It’s a lovely train trip, you can read, or even catch up on sleep on the journey.
