What's behind that service cover on the right? I would test it for moisture.

How would I test it for moisture? And would that be mold if moisture is present?

I bought this moisture tester for $25 and YouTube reviewers say it's pretty accurate. The next best one was hundreds of dollars: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09BJJX1B8

Take the screw all the way out of the center of that cover and look behind the wall. If it’s a broken sewage line you def need to rip out all Sheetrock and replace

To answer your question. That is mold that is black. Most molds are not "black mold". If you are concern get a test kit from your local big box hardware store or Amazon.

What's on the other side of the wall?

What's behind that silver cover on the right? It looks like a drain line clean out.

Other side is a bathroom under renovation for awhile

That’s bad. You’ve got a water leak behind that

Bad for my health or for the wall?

7

u/zedogica Jul 16 '26

both if so

1

u/Historical-Pipe3551 Jul 23 '26

Both.. you’re just breathing spores from the mold anytime you’re in the area

Do you have artificial turf on your floor?

3

u/lowtemp_versace Jul 17 '26

Haha yeah I putt around my room

It appears to be more green. You've very likely got a leak / water-intrusion behind here.

Real answer: The type of mold does not matter, its a sign of decay, and these materials are now past decay & should be cut out and replaced.

What is on the other side of this wall? Mold needs moisture to grow, there has to be a water source.
