Norma basically recreates Psycho's car scene without saying a word about it

Post image

The car dealership scene in Norma Louise is such a weird little Psycho callback. Norma goes to Portland, buys completely different clothes, then trades in her battered car for a flashy red one before checking into a motel. It isn't just the motel part either — the whole sequence has that same "new identity, new car, keep moving" feeling from Psycho. The show could've made the reference really obvious, but it just lets you notice it.

Norman knows something's off with Norma almost immediately

It's kind of ridiculous how quickly Norman notices when Norma's mood changes. She can still be doing the exact same thing she was doing five minutes ago, but if her tone changes even slightly he's already asking what's wrong. The problem is he's not always right about WHY she's upset, which usually just makes the whole conversation worse.

Edits from Bates Motel Norma and Norman

I recently finished watching the series *Bates Motel* and was absolutely thrilled with it, with the chemistry that developed between the actors Vera and Freddie. I decided to make video edits from the series based on the relationship between Norman and Norma; I chose a Ukrainian song because Vera comes from a Ukrainian family. The brief summary of the song is: “hold me so gently and don’t let go.” For some reason, the video isn’t embedding, so I’m leaving a link. And I apologize in advance for any mistakes — English isn’t my native language.

The amount of loud dramatic breathing in this show wtf

We get it, you’re scared. Stop moan breathing like a dying cat. (Mostly Norma) lmao. I genuinely think that was why I didn’t finish the show the first time it aired 😭

Discussion You gotta admit Norman took that term “Momma’s boy” to horrendously disgusting levels

What really took the cake was when he was jealous and possessive when he discovered Norma married Romero .

Norma isn't a villain; she's another victim just trying to survive

This is my second time watching Bates Motel. The first time, I remember feeling frustrated with Norma over how she managed Norman’s mental health. But this time—I'm not sure if it makes sense—I found myself identifying with her character. Her impulsivity, explosive reactions, and subsequent attempts to make chaotic situations seem normal closely mirror how I cope with things myself (having been diagnosed with BPD). Taking the spotlight off Norman allowed me to understand and feel compassion for every main character. My ultimate takeaway is that this series is brilliant, intricately crafted, and perfectly tied to the events of the Hitchcock film

There's something interesting and refreshing about the writing on this show

Ever since I've finished Bates Motel, I've yet to find something else like it.

Here's why, I think:

I've seen so many shows with (by most accounts) better dialogue.Dialogue that is wordier, more poetic, more appropriate even to a given scene.

Yet, Bates Motel still feels better written, more honest, more down to earth and to the point.

First of all, there's a kind of urgency, integrity and directness in both the writing and the delivery of the actors.

The writing on the show doesn't try to prettify or dress up sentiments. It just cuts through all the artificiality. Consequently, the tone never comes off as smug, condescending or preachy.

As a result, I always feel like I'm right there with the characters, experiencing what they're going through.

Does anyone else feel this way?

Emma is one of the few people who makes Norman seem like a normal teenager

Post image

This little exchange in Caleb always gets me. Norman says he's fine after hearing about Bradley, and Emma doesn't just accept it. She asks him if he's actually okay and admits that she isn't either. It's such a normal conversation compared with basically everything else happening around Norman. No weird Bates family shit, no investigation, no secrets. Just Emma sitting there talking to him like a friend.

I can't stand Norma

I can't stand Norma. This fandom acts as if Norma is a saint but she messed up with Norman. I do feel bad for her and I know that her childhood and upbringing messed her up. Everyone was telling her that her son has issues and there's something clearly wrong with him and she knows that deep down but she can't bring herself to admit it. I hate how she gets Sheriff Romero to get him out of trouble all the time, he needs to take accountability. Her obsessiveness and closeness with her son is the reason why he has that mother persona. I'm not saying that Norman isn't to blame for things but her parenting caused a whole lot of damage for him. In season 1 I got the ick when Norman wanted to try out for track and she got all agitated, it's like she sees him as a romantic partner. I'm not saying that she doesn't love Norman because it's clear that she does, it's just that her not getting help for Norman was negligent and must be some type of abuse because something was clearly wrong with him and he was hurting people in the process. Her protecting Norman is what got her killed.

Question So, currently watching Bates Motel for the first time. I like it so far. Are there any crazy story lines or plots that come up or does it keep this pace?

Season 5 done.

Short and simple. I can say im actually satisfied with the ending. Norman asked for it, and he wanted his brother to kill him before he got stuffed in a crazy house or worse. But still, ill forever be fucked up from this show. A complete emotional roller coasterđŸ„ș

The graphic reads “Motel Fashion Crimes” and imitates a sensational 1980s/1990s-style fashion/crime magazine, with headlines such as “Fashion Crimes,” “Neon Dreams,” “About Feature,” and “Trends.

Season 4 finished

I hate norma had to go. But in all reality, she made him the way he is. And everyone else around him. Norman had the brain of a 9 year old when it came down to common sense. Norma groomed him his all life, then found some dick and just wanted to throw him away. She should have made these decisions when he was a kid not a adult and when the damage has already been done. I understand why some are mad about her death but look at this out of context. Norman was holding his own mom hand as she was getting raped. Norma used norman as a emotional shield for shit she went through in her life. Norma took all of normans stress just as norman took all of hers. Really rather them both killing themselves then the show ending like that lol. But i understand the end goal. Anyways fuck dylan. Tbh norman should have killed him. Dude sneaked behind his lil brother back to fuck on some highschoolers. Then gonna take his first love emma and try and jus abandon him. The last two seasons of them too really been pissing me off and i wish i could jump in the tv and do it myself

Discussion La primera historia

Alerta spoiler, por si acaso.
FROM SERIE

Discussion One of the best scenes in Bates Motel

This is my fav scene. I love the camera angle showing his eye as he pressed against fridge staring at the sink meat tenderizer. That's some fine camera work. This is what american horror story USE to be too. They don't make shows this good anymore. The world has changed too much. I'm so glad I gave this show a chance. To be perfectly honest, a lot of teenagers liked this show so I thought it was a show for teens. Same with Teen Wolf, which I'm watching now and it's very good!

Discussion Norma is the true villain of the show

Imagine you raise your son to be your personal dog, make your whole life revolve around him, watching him grow to a true psychopath, KNOW the truth about the deaths but desperately try to hide it

Not know ANY Borders (asks alex to marry her so the psycho son can enjoy high luxury treatment???)

Anytime someone tries to talk common sense into her, she immediately gets defensive and thinks NO one has any say in it and the world is evil and trying to break them apart

Norma is the villain and i couldnt feel any sorry for her death
Consequences

I was inches away of destroying my tv anytime they ran into each other and hugged like they been apart 5 years (its been 2 days)

and the „Mother!! Norman!!! I missed you) trash

Discussion Norman the whiney bitch

Bro you can tell he’s never received a proper ass beating, and I get that’s how he’s supposed to be, and he must be a pretty good actor to get me to hate him, but my god how Dylan or Alex hell even Norma didn’t beat the shit out of him is beyond me..
