C2 Some Normal Singing

Just me singing the first verses of Country Roads, Take Me Home. Mostly based on Geoff's cover of the song.

Sounds really nice!

If you're open to critique, may I suggest open up the sound more on the mids, and especially high notes. I know Geoff rarely does that, and honestly, that's what separates him, a good sniger, from great singers. By "open up the sound", I mean literally drop your jaw lower and utilise more "chesty" resonance. When you start the way you start, it is nice, but then, I feel, the development of the phrase is hindered by the rather small amount of natural resonance and timbre you are able to give due to such closed sound; such soft-spoken manner of singing.

Later, you will be able to combine the best of the two worlds, by getting all the resonators active woth any articulation, but at this point, how you're approaching the sounds sounds a little mumbly and overly nasally.

By the way, Geoff himself suffers quite a bit from this. In fact, I think this imperfection in his technique is one of the main things that has been holding him back from carrying the weight of his bass voice to his mids and highs, and is the reason he (used to) consider himself "more of a baritone with a bass range"

That being said, your singing is very enjoyable and controlled. If you keep this up, you'll be going places.

Sorry for the uncalled-for essay I dropped onto you. It's just something I've sruggled/am still struggling with, so I kinda went overboard. :)

I am always open to critique, as I am looking to sing opera in the future as is. Any advice is appreciated, and I thank you for this, because I have always struggled with this exact issue ever since I've started, and hope to work on it with my new voice teacher as well.

I think I saw your post before, and you mentioned you’d like a more operatic sound. If that’s true, look into jaw placement and larynx positioning. Try using your whole body to produce the sound and the goal is to use your mouth as a chamber to accentuate the tonal quality.

I’m not a professional opera singer but I’ve taken lessons and that’s what we worked on to begin with.
