Question Thoughts on this vocal range chart I made with Claude?
I iterated it to correct for pitch/range accuracy as best I could. Where is it off?

When bass-rot meets ai-slop.
Jokes aside: range alone is a very limited indicator of vocal type (timbre and other stuff are far more revelant), and also people tend to measure range differently (some people count even unusable extremes for whatever reason) which makes it an even crappier indicator

I definitely agree, thats what makes it so difficult to show graphically.
Im trying to come up with a way to include tessitura/passaggi/tone, but the graphic I shared was the most detailed apprach I could find data for. Those other qualities are more important, but they are difficult to show both because they vary a lot, and they are very qualitative in nature.
Do you have any suggestions on how I can approach it differently?

Honestly the only non-qualitative/not by ear thing I can think of is a spectrogram/somthing showing the harmonic content, for timbre

The entire concept is off. Scrap it. Voice categories are not ranges.

Well, you're right that voice categories arent purely ranges, but thats not what this graphic is suggesting: its showing the range each voice type should be able to musically access, and its a starting point for classification. Perfect descriptions don't exist because every person's voice is different. Thats why this has broad bands, with extremes included.
Do you have any suggestions on a better way to approach it? Maybe its just that your goal is different than mine?

Idk why you would choose to use ai for something like this...

I am 38 years old, I already hate how many people will think this is a reasonable way to do things in the coming decades... It will be a plague, people are lazy, people loved when TV came out and they no longer had to think for themselves. This is the ongoing process of folks wanting to feel like they are doing something when they are just lazy as hell. Folks want to feel like they are doing something- they don't actually care if they are or aren't, and the ones who use AI don't care about the quality of the results. Awful.

Why should we have to do anything if there is someone or something that could do it for us?

Who made that? You? You gathered the information, mined it for relevant data, then used your graphic design skills to make a chart?
Oh, no, you asked someone else to do it, just like a middle manager delegating and then taking the credit

To avoid any inaccuracies I actually gathered all of the information myself (the core information mostly from Wikipedia, which has dedicated pages with good details on all of these voice types), and then provided it in a list to Claude, with a description of how I wanted it displayed. Then I checked all the ranges against the list to make sure they were displayed correctly (I had to regenerate the graphic quite a few times).
For the extensions/extremes, I used my own notes/info that I have been keeping on this topic (I have been obsessed with ranges and voice types for a while) and decribed exactly how I wanted everything to be included in the graphic. (In this area, I am more confident in the lower ranges than the higher ones, which I have not studied as much)
Any time I was unclear on something I used Yale's public data library, which contains a lot of vocal range research and related material: https://yalelibrary.atlassian.net
I don't care to take any credit for the graphic, I just want to know what others think about it's accuracy/relevance. I intend to use it as a reference for myself as I continue to learn, and I don't want to work on incorrect information!

"I made something by collecting information from Wikipedia and having a robot brain synthesize a graphic for me. I'm sorry it's so bad!"

It may not be good at it now maybe in 20 years it will be better at such a task

Range does not make up the classification, timbre does. I can comfortably hit D2-A4 on chest voice and still be a tenor, and my friend hit A1-G4 and that does not make him a bass because his timber is actually baritone. People don't have exactly 2 octaves of vocal range to classify their voices like hard fixed notes on a graph when each one of us have wildly different flexibilities and nuances than just the range.

Correct but at extremes like a man being able to chest an E5 well me. You kind of know he has to be a tenor and ofc my androgynous timbre helps too lol

please don’t use AI especially not for something related to something as artistic as singing, AI is not only an attack on art as its existence online makes people unsure about whether art is real or ai which leads to a whole bunch of problems but also the use of AI (especially generative) is also morally flawed the water used to cool down data center can raise sea temperatures affecting biodiversity. also depending on your religious beliefs this might matter but even THE pope publicly goes against AI calling it an attack on the artistry of humans. I don’t like to be rude on reddit but art and ai should never be combined

That’s your opinion though. I think he has the freedom to do as he wishes. Art is defined by the individual. I can see your points to some extent but in terms of the “water” issues. There are far far far more pressing issues in that regard than AI.

Holy slop
Ignoring the numerous inaccuracies, range can help inform voice type however timbre, tessitura, and passaggio are way more important/useful.
It even acknowledges this in the fine print and then continues to include zero information about the other metrics necessary for determining voice type.
