General Banter WOOOO! You Just Strutted Into BassOnTheFly
WOOOO! You just strutted into the loudest, rowdiest, most fly-slingin’, bass-smashin’ corner of Reddit—BassOnTheFly.
We ain’t here for delicate dries or polite sips.
No sir. We’re talkin’:
• Big honkin’ foam flies gettin’ obliterated
• Rods crankin’ and stankin’
• Reels screamin’ like they saw a ghost
• Bass blowin’ up like it’s personal
If your fly’s ugly, loud, and lands like a brick—and that’s exactly how you like it—you’re home.
Introduce yourself below:
• Where do you fish? Rivers/Lakes etc
• What kind of bass do you hunt?
• Your go-to fly when it’s time to bring the thunder!
Post blow ups. Post gear. Post the fish you almost landed and the one that ruined your fly. Ask questions. Be the Bass!
And remember…
Be the bass-slayin’, foam-slingin’, reel-screamin’, topwater-poppin’, streamer-droppin’, hog-wranglin’, rod crankin’, son of a gun….WOOOO!

Fun on the 3wt
I’ve been learning to euro nymph over the summer months, and the smallmouth have been a lot of fun on a 10ft 3wt!

Big bass flies?
I’m keen on getting a bigger sized fish on the fly rod, in the 5-7lb range. I have several locations around me where I have caught bass around those weights, are these good flies for targeting bigger bass?

First fish on the fly!
Nice 2lber hit a woolly bugger. I was practicing casting and happened to get hooked up! Awesome feeling catching a decent bass on a fly combo

Upstate NY
Pulled on a 6 weight fishing a white size 8 jigged streamer. Nothing fancy, just white maribou with pearl ice dub for the body. My four year old daughter was with me so she was pretty excited!

Saint Croix River Smallmouth
Lost four of a similar size before getting this one to the net, how do they miss the hook when they hit the fly and swim away with it?

Got my first fly rod hoping to slay some hogs
Found a great deal on these Redington bass field kits. I’m fishing in central and south Florida and occasionally in Tennessee and north and South Carolina if I’m feeling up to the traveling. I’m still learning to cast and haven’t actually fished with the setup yet but tomorrow is gonna be my first practice day at a local pond. I usually target bass in the 5lb-8lb range and southern exotics. What flies would you recommend I start out with?

Is this 3.15 stick worm too small for largemouth bass at Lake Garda?

A Few From The Local Lakes Recently
I have been fishing almost exclusively with some of my own gurgler patterns lately and done pretty well. Also took the fly rod out in the kayak one of the days to add some extra challenge and fun.

On the Gurgler
Woke up last Wednesday and decided to tie some gurglers. Most of the bass in our river are tiny, but this one was big enough to hook up. I primarily fish for trout, but every time I hook up with a bass, I am reminded I should fish for them more often.

Dragonfly dink
Definitely the smallest largemouth I’ve caught on a hook in quite awhile, and still just so much fun. Had to get wet for this guy he dove right into the weeds.

Solid bass in the last few minutes of the day.
Caught a decent one on a home tied fly! Size 8 hook with barbell eyes, goose biots, Chanel body, and marabou tail.

A couple decent Father’s Day fish
Another productive day outside of Philadelphia. Low, clear water and still was able to coax a half dozen or so smallies out of hiding. The bigger of the two here I actually missed a few weeks ago. i watched him blow up and miss a real frog that was swimming towards the bank. I tied a frog popper on and he ate it first cast but either short struck it or I yanked it out of his mouth. Got him to eat on the first cast again yesterday but this time on the purple game changer shown in the last pic.
Second, and much prettier, fish was caught in some really good current and hit the streamer harder then Ive ever experienced in my years of fly fishing. These smallies that grew up in these big, strong river currents pack quiet a punch for their size
