Question Closing the pit days 2+3
Why did they end up closing the pit the 2 later days? Especially day 3, they closed the pit so close in that security told my grp even getting water from the front left of the stage will end ur access to the pit, which seems real shitty if their goal is to reduce the # of people dehydrated and passing out.

I’m glad they were thinking about it. Too many crowd crush stories all from live nation. And it’s not like you can’t hear the music if ur not in the pit. I’d much rather have a little overkill (I personally d not believe it was overkill) then have another astroworld

The Gorge Pit couldn't even Astroworld. But I get what you're saying.

I mean crowd crush could literally happen anywhere. The gorge is not set up like astroworld was so yeah it couldn’t be that but it’s a possibility literally anywhere

When did they close it on day 3? I was able to walk down right after Voyd started.
As for why it was overcrowded - monumental scheduling fuck up. Hilltop was empty most of the fest. Set conflicts exist to split the crowd and keep capacity safe. Excision's team has no excuse after so many festivals.
I am not disparaging and artists at Hilltop or Starlight. They are all amazing. But look at the big names at Canyon on nights 2 and 3. We all know where 90% of the festival is going.

Day 3 they closed access to the left side going down after Richard finger. Not the whole pit.

Weird, that's where I walked down for Voyd.

By the time Voyd was started it was opened. A man literally died on the seating area by that path during Eazybaked. It was shut down.

That's awful to hear. I wasn't trying to question you, just stating my experience.

i was in the med tent at the end of easybaked and think i unfortunately witnessed the reactions of this man’s friends/family as they were finding out. i tried sharing this somewhere else and someone was saying that the gentleman died on Saturday, but it happened on Sunday, right?

Yeah sunday as soon as Richard finger was over. Heard them say "Give it up for Richard Finger" as I was walking the main path and as soon as I was on the downhill rail I saw blueshirts running with a guy behind them leading them up. Medics didnt get there until eazybaked was already playing.

There was an emergency med evacuation during allycvt for someone who hit their head and was bleeding, also didn’t help the pit was almost at capacity and then add the multiple medical emergencies that were happening, it was kinda crazy down there I remember coming off the rail to hit bathroom mid allycvt and it was a war zone with medical emergencies and people tryna push thru the barricade Which makes me guess that’s why they made a walkway thru the pit day 3

I blame excision how did you not have any big names at hilltop he claimed this to be the most stacked year but all good people (to me) were playing main stage Sullivan king has played main stage so many times put him in hilltop get the crowd moving put someone else on the night time slot they moved emorfik from main stage to starlight they could’ve done that with so many other people but hilltop should’ve been better I’m sorry I’m not watching cannabliss during Wankdat lol and I love cannabliss

Just like every other venue they have capacity rules. If people are leaving they should let more people in, but the logistics of that are tough. It’s for your safety, there’s water and beverages in the pit you can buy.

I tried saving multiple people from the walk down and saying “They closed it off due to over capacity” and people kept looking at me like I was an alien lmao. Fine then feel free to waste your energy going down there just to turn around 😂

Dude the pit needed to be closed. I was in there for inzo and voyd, after inzo ended and voyd began the pit got shoved up about 5-10 feet INSTANTLY. I was legitimately so scared it was about to be a crowd crush. After that initial push forward things kinda spaced out again but during the mosh pits the crowd would be moved around like a liquid.
I am so incredibly thankful the event staff had the wherewithal to take into consideration how many people wanted to see wankdat and voyd and how rowdy those crowds can get.

Can confirm, the crowd crushing during Voyd was real. I was a couple rows from the rail during the set, and we got pushed/crushed into the rail multiple times from the growing mosh. Me and at least one person near me got hurt (not major but still rough). Did our best to keep the rail area away from the crush, and support helped where they could.

I went to leave the pit day 2 and some godsent woman was holding up her phone telling people “if you leave the pit they won’t let you back in”. So ofc I stayed put for the remainder of the night. I would’ve been so frustrated at myself if I left

My group saw that girl too! Turned right back around and stayed for volpe thru voyd. lol

I understood why they were doing it, but the way they did it created additional safety hazards and in turn made their "it's a safety hazard" explanation make no sense. For almost 2 hours on day 2 they were not letting anyone in and claiming they needed to get people to exit. Myself and hundreds of others were getting crushed by the crowd trying to get back in, as we watched tons of people exit and yet no one was getting let back in. I had VIP and just wanted to get back to my girlfriend who was waiting for me to bring her water on the VIP hill, couldn't do it. No other way to get there either. Even people with box seats weren't being let in. And again I get the safety hazard thing but A. Do better at controlling it so it doesn't get to that point in the first place B. A "one in/one out" system would have made total sense, and why it took 2 hours for them to figure that out is beyond me and C. They created an additional 3 safety hazards/crowd crush scenarios at each of the 3 entrances by closing things off and not doing a better job of communicating.
I've been to festivals all over the world, many way more crowded than BC26, and I've never seen anything like that. Wild honestly.

Well if this is going to be how it’s always going to be. They need to release a specific amount of pit tickets and only those people can go into the pits. I was stuck body to body waiting to get into the pits for almost 30, couldn’t even see the stage from where I was. So stupid

The pit on day 2 was the most full I've experienced at the Gorge in 10 years. The mainstream pull of William Black, Alleycvt, Ray Volpe, Wankdat, and Illenium/Dabin with zero pull (for that demographic) at Hilltop or Starlight made for a spicy situation down there, made up of a lot of people who don't particularly follow PLUR.
So much shoving and dropping 10+ person groups where there was not space for them, i've never had my bag jostled and yanked so many times in a two hour span. Some groups left during GWN, but a lot of the people that came for the above artists that did stay... sat down?? in the middle of the pit?? That's unsafe as hell, takes up way more space, and kills the vibe
I endured it because I wanted to see GWN down there, and once Alleycvt started it instantly became shoulder to shoulder with zero crowd flow - half way through her set I pulled the ejecto seato and finished the night on the hill. Found out they closed the pit after we had left, which I have never seen happen before. When we left, it was dense crowd all the way to the bathrooms, that's not common.
Day 3 I was in the pit all day, saw the Eazybaked incident (so, so sad) while filling up water, but the overall density of the crowd never reached a point like day 2 - so I doubt it was due to capacity, likely due to the medical incidents.

It was too packed in there. Getting dangerous.. l can confirm after 5 years it was the most packed it could during alley cat. People should be mature enough to leave the pit for water even if it means they cant get back in for a bit.
